Additionally, the rolls I got did not have DX coding, rendering NC 500 unusable on most point-and-shoot cameras .

Kodak Ultramax 35mm film is a versatile colour negative film suitable for a variety of photography situations. I was thinking about having fun with film a few years ago (since there is no real digital medium format experience, and cameras with bigger sensor than Fuji’s oversized FF “medium format” are extremely expensive). WE HAVE BEEN PROVIDING PHOTO PROCESSING SERVICES SINCE 1983 AND HAVE THE EXPERIENCE, EQUIPMENT AND EXPERTISE TO GIVE YOU THE BEST QUALITY RESULTS ON TRADITIONAL, SILVER HALIDE PHOTOGRAPHIC PAPER (NOT INKJET! It featured fine grain and natural-looking renderings (with some tendency towards purple shadows in some scans). Its color rendition is true to life, less punchy and saturated than Fujifilm’s consumer-grade film Superia 400. Like most Kodak films, its warm tones make UltraMax a good portrait film and its strong saturation works well for landscapes as well.

Meaning I do not want making photographs to be the focus, I just want to document an occasion and enjoy the moment.

The fidelity of those scans can’t be compared to my 40MP dedicated film scanner and the flexibility of a digital negative . Gold is one stop slower than UltraMax but is known to perform well in cool light/overcast days (as long as you don’t under-expose it ). London Camera Exchange Limited, London Camera Exchange Solent Limited and London Camera Exchange Portsmouth Limited are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, register numbers 742719, 761264, 789602 and act as a credit broker and not a lender.

It has very high exposure latitude, strong saturation, medium to high contrast, and its grain is more noticeable than pro grade film but is still very good looking. Keep an eye on the camera’s light meter, or use an external light meter if your camera doesn’t have one. If you spend 11€ for a role of Ultramax 400 and maybe the same for development but you save 1100€ on your camera since analog cameras are cheap compared to digital ones you can shot 50 roles before you spend the same money as for digital.

Others may have different preferences and it has nothing to do with any thoughts of Ultramax 400 being deficient. With using Ultramax 400 in mainly compact cameras which lack manual controls, I can either modify the DX Code or shoot at box speed.
