Description

The manufacture of sustainable products is characterised by the reduction or elimination of harmful chemicals. Though this makes the Farpoint stand out a bit more in airports, it is at home in more rugged, rural, and backcountry travel settings, and a great option for those on international backpacking adventures, who often stay in hostels.

Or do you think it doesnt’t add much comfort to the traditional way of carrying two backpacks (kangaroo-style) without the clips? This does take up space you could use to stow gear, but they make finding your gear much more manageable. This provides a very secure way to carry your daypack when you want to keep your valuables or tickets to hand. However, Osprey recommends separating the main backpack from the daypack when taking the bag as a carry-on. Some links may be affiliate links, meaning I may earn commission from products or services I recommend. We know it doesn’t seem like a huge deal, but having padded carry handles is great when you’re loading/unloading your bag. The Osprey Farpoint 55 is a lightweight back-packable travel bag with an adjustable carrying harness and detachable daysack. However, with this large piece of fabric that zips over the straps, the Farpoint 55 is transformed with no more random bits sticking out and the check-in person will gladly put your backpack onto the conveyor belt like a normal bag.

But the main pack is now carry-on size — in fact, it has the exact same dimensions as the Farpoint 40. Osprey addressed this exact issue with the Ozone Duplex 60 which has a carry-on sized "duffel" that attaches to the smaller day pack.

The previous edition of the Osprey Farpoint 55 had different dimensions that made it too big for carry-on. Although the Farpoint 55 has a cool two-in-one backpack system, I still think the Farpoint 40 is a better backpack overall. I have waist and back problems, so one of the most important aspects of choosing a bag is its suspension system. BUT, the daypack has one inside pocket on a zipper, plus the straps that secure the daypack to the main backpack prevent thieves from opening it up quickly. If you like your current Fairview perhaps the front clip is not a big enough reason by itself to upgrade/change.

There are a few things that make the Osprey Farpoint 55 such a comfortable bag to carry no matter how long you’re on your feet. I really like the concept of having two bags, using the attached daypack for trips around cities not having to carry the big one. You did mention that the Farpoint/Fairview 40 is a size more suited for summer in Eu or trips in Asia. This criterion includes socially acceptable production conditions and a transparent value chain for the products. The Farpoint 55 and Fairview 55 are essentially the same product; the only difference is that the Fairview is a women’s specific version. With the help of packing cubes, this size backpack should be able to fit one to two weeks of clothes and other types of travel gear needed for a big trip.
