About this deal

But this chunky yet competent backpack doesn't have a killer feature or look that makes it stand out from some pretty tough competition.

We've assembled a few of our favorite articles, tutorials, explainers, and guides to help beginners get started with photography and level up to advanced concepts. It's better than brand trolls from other makes who not only don't own it, but have no intention of ever owning it or the cameras to which it attaches, coming in with 'LOL it distorts 6. Curoious how you’d compare this lens to the 14-150 II as a travel/hiking lens to leave on the camera. Furthermore depth of field is better if you need more in low light and you cannot get it on larger format, check your cellphone. Bolton "I'd rather carry around 200g extra of camera that I like to use versus 200g less of plastic brick that I don't.Image quality wide open is spectacular, and stopping down some enhances it very little – it is that good wide open. Zuiko 12-100mm F4 is that unless you need to stop down for depth of field or another reason, the lens is more than sharp enough to just shoot wide-open all the time. I have not done a side by side comparison between the 12-100mm and 12-40mm, but from my extensive shooting experience and memory using both lenses, I did feel that the newer 12-100mm F4 Pro lens is slightly sharper, but not by a significant margin.

We'll be ramping up lens review content in this type of format, and so all feedback – especially critical feedback – is important. Nonetheless, you are right, there should be some compromises and minor flaws there and here, considering how ambitious the lens is. Shooting for long hours hand-held with such a setup is likely to cause wrist strain (I felt it using my own E-M10 Mark II with the 12-100mm lens). So while characteristics like vignetting and distortion appear really well-controlled, it's likely that software is partly responsible. I am able to take night scene shots at base ISO with shutter speed as low as 8 seconds handheld at 12mm.Less easy to deal with is the bit of fringing around the slightly out-of-focus sticks just to the right of the center of the frame; this is longitudinal CA, and you can see a bit of it in as green/cyan fringing in the reptile image earlier in the review.

In such a situation this lens would beat any competition from apsc or mft while giving me some depth of field. As a person with k-mount apsc dslr, sony ff and apsc emount, canon rp, panasonic g85 and gx880 this is my take. They just didn't 'sharpen up' as much as I'd like as I stopped down further, which then softened up the rest of the image due to diffraction. Since then, probably 80% of my m4/3 travel photography has been done using the 14-150, despite my shelf full of m.I suppose when you consider the effective range (24-200) and relatively fast constant aperture (4) – that changes things a bit. This gallery by Carey is excellent, and totally in line with the pictures I've been getting with the lens since 2017. I still stand behind my opinion that this lens highlights the wrong direction m43 focus took away from compact size solutions towards heavy lenses and bodies. I will have to say this right up front that the Olympus 12-100mm f/4 Dual IS is the best super zoom I’ve ever used. Generally mandating corrections suggests that manufacturer knows that the lens has a lot of optical distortion.

From dimly lit church interiors and landscapes to portraits and wildlife, the 12-100mm can handle pretty much anything.Overall, I’m glad I bought it and will definitely use it for travel and “one camera, one lens” type situation. second shutter speeds allow me a lot of room for creative photographic execution, such as light trails along a highway. Although for much of my photography (including travel) I still prefer primes, there are several killer USPs for this lens, which has become an important part of my kit. Both the first sample I had of it and the second showed a very blurred or ghosted left side of the frame, worse in the lower left corner, Where it was almost impossible to see what was going on there, just blur. On a smaller camera like the E-M5 or E-M10 it’s going to be really front heavy, but the E-M5 combined with a battery grip is a perfect match.
