Then, a particularly grim discovery at the school makes this the most challenging murder investigation of her career. Because Fleat House hides secrets darker than even Jazz could ever have imagined . . .

The Murders at Fleat House By Lucinda Riley |The Works

Even though at first I wasn't impressed at some point, the story gripped me, and I couldn't put it down! And because mystery books were not her usual genre, I was not sure what to expect, but I certainly had a huge surprise as a worked my way through it. I absolutely love Lucinda Riley’s work but I’m not entirely convinced that I enjoyed The Murders at Fleat House as much as I’d hoped. However, it is a great gift to Lucinda Riley fans in the wake of her sad passing.Lucinda Riley was born in Ireland and, after an early career as an actress in film, theatre and television, wrote her first book aged twenty-four. The bottom line here is that I loved this book and would love to see a whole series like this in tribute to the wonderful writer that Lucinda Riley was. The Murders At Fleat House – Read, Reread or Reconsider? The Murders at Fleat House is a departure from the sweeping Sister Series, but her signature style of weaving a story into its surrounds is a key factor of this book.

So yes, this section isn’t really about something I didn’t like in the book, but rather more about what I did like. Charlie is exposed as an arrogant bully, and those around him had both motive and opportunity to switch the drugs he took daily to control his epilepsy. But the local police cannot rule out foul play and the case prompts the return of high-flying Detective Inspector Jazmine 'Jazz' Hunter to the force. Jazz has her own private reasons for stepping away from her police career in London, but reluctantly agrees to front the investigation as a favour to her old boss. The characters are wonderfully flawed, so no-one is completely off the hook as far as suspects are concerned.Reunited with her loyal sergeant, she enters the closed world of the school, and as Jazz begins to probe the circumstances surrounding Charlie Cavendish’s tragic death, events are soon to take another troubling turn.
