At first read, alot of the content seems like common sense parenting, but it is also very specific and scripted. Some children are temperamentally more difficult to parent because they are impulsive, hyperactive, inattentive, or delayed in some aspect of their development. I also like the end of the book gives very specific examples of problems and shows how to use the various tools to solve each case. I picked it up because Emily Oster mentioned in Cribsheet that RCTs have shown children's behavior improves after parents take The Incredible Years course. For example, lots of parenting advice suggests sticker charts, but this book goes into a lot more depth than other sources, listing common mistakes parents make using them and how to avoid those mistakes.

This was referred to me as a resource to follow PBMT (parent behavior management training) though the author does not use that specific term. My Son's Dad and I are no longer together, so he's currently got my copy while I use the CAMHS copy. Additionally the programs have been shown to promote protective factors such as positive parenting and teaching focused on strengthening children’s social and emotional competence and school readiness. There are also detailed scripts that include social, emotion, academic and persistence coaching dialogues for parents to model, prompt, describe, expand and praise.
