I'm a life-long Castleford Tigers fan so trust me when I say it's not easy to read parts of a story from the perspective of the person who inflicted some of the misery on your team, getting to see what might have been from the side that celebrated rather than the side left wondering what might have been! Soon she’ll drag me out of bed before showering me, getting me dressed, helping me down the stairs, giving me my medication and feeding me. Rob Burrow is a former professional rugby league footballer who spent sixteen years playing for Leeds Rhinos in the Super League, before retiring in 2017. His wife, Lindsey, and the youngest of their three children, Maya, seven, and Jackson, three, accompanied him to the CBeebies recording studio and had a behind-the-scenes tour.

Sport has never been my thing but hearing of Robs diagnosis and also losing a work colleague who was a friend from the same illness, I wanted to read this to help me understand more not only about the illness but how someone comes to terms with being told something so life changing.Having already won the Harry Sunderland [Man of the Match] Trophy in 2007, I now became the first player to win it unanimously, with all 37 judges voting for me. Lionel Messi has been named the world's best player EIGHT times, but who would have won the Ballon d'Or on each occasion if he didn't exist? When I sit down on the bad days and think: ‘Actually this is happening, this is our life,’ it hits you. Rob mentions that so many fans of other teams have gone on to pass on their well-wishes, give him money, even do their own ridiculous challenges to raise awareness for his cause. Biography: Rob Burrow is a former professional rugby league footballer who spent sixteen years playing for Leeds Rhinos in the Super League, before retiring in 2017.

In December 2019, Rob was diagnosed with motor neurone disease, a rare degenerative condition, and given a couple of years to live. The prognosis was bleak because Burrow was told his life expectancy, while declining rapidly from an incurable disease, would be unlikely to stretch beyond two years. It’s about the power of love, between Rob and his childhood sweetheart Lindsey, and of the life-changing bond of friendship between Rob, Kevin Sinfield, and their Rhino teammates. Burrow joins a host of celebrities who have read bedtime stories on the show, including Dolly Parton, David Tennant and Jessica Ennis-Hill.Now, they can live their lives and have hope that there could be drugs that can slow this down, and one day there will be a cure. I think I was expecting the book to mainly be about his fight against MND, and about how him and his family have coped, and all the wonderful things he has done to spread awareness. The Burrows have accepted the diagnosis of MND, which they received on a shattering day in December 2019, but Rob continues to fight the medical prognosis that suggested he had two years to live. miles of unimaginable strength from both but, perhaps more important, it conveys the friendship between the pair. During his time at Leeds, for whom he played almost 500 games, he won eight Super League Grand Finals, two Challenge Cups and three World Club Challenges.

He had been an integral part of our club’s recent success, a product of the Leeds Rhinos Academy, one of our own. The children directed their daddy from the TV gallery, counting down and shouting ‘action’ when the cameras were rolling. The 38-year-old, who won eight Grand Finals and 20 international caps during a long and memorable career, has a ravaging form of motor neurone disease.
