I almost never give up on a book for cursing or sex, so I think it's just how much the character hates women and how dirty I felt reading it that made me put it down. A guy who wants to make you better off seeks to add value to your life, encourage your growth and independence. It’s telling and appropriate that Beck’s autobiography, “Pimp: The Story of My Life”, should open with this admission. The is definitely a story about falling through the cracks of the system and seeing Samantha’s life from childhood to adulthood with neglect and abuse with only a few people to care about her was hard to hear about but one I think is important too. She was afterall, being groomed and having sex with grown men while she was in their care, as was the person grooming her. They are all cautionary, and in that way they all fail, two of them because they are obviously bullshit, and this one because after reading it I'm sure all the good stuff the author got out of being a pimp outweighs the awfulness that followed. That film was interesting enough to get me to seek out the book if for no other reason than I was curious to see how a pimp might turn pulp novelist.
