Listening to both new pressings I cant tell them apart, even the volume is the exact same so it must be.

Early Days and Latter Days has a tracklist similar to Mothership (the latter adds "D'yer Mak'er", "Over the Hills and Far Away", "Heartbreaker", and "Ramble On", but loses "Ten Years Gone", "What Is and What Should Never Be", and "The Battle of Evermore") so, clearly, the idea of Led Zeppelin's greatest hits is contentious even for the band itself. It's not as in-yer-face, not as detailed, but it has a flow and a sense of space that you didn't realise you were missing before. For me, it’s good to have this compilation, so that I can spare my beautiful valuable originals hours of playtime. Surprisingly bubble wrap is used which looks a little cheap, a custom dampening material would have felt more exclusive if it had matched the slick aesthetic. It just took me awhile to get used to and now I love it, though I certainly don't listen in the same way that I listen to my Pink Floyd CDs. The lows and highs are more balanced, and also noticed the left to right is balanced better than the originals. And to make it louder, you have to compromise on some of the detail, because there's only so much information a CD can process.They're remastered and re-released, but does messing with Led Zep's classics make them sound any better?

Still, content-critiquing aside, the remastering on Mothership is no small achievement, and it sounds revelatory on even the shittiest stereos.

His aesthetic, he says, is to get as close as possible not to the vinyl version or even necessarily to the master tape, but to what the engineer and producer heard at the time, "maybe with a little bit of updating".
