The Boy’s Body Book is here to help with expert advice, common sense tips, fast facts, and answers to all questions a boy might have. I really didn't care for the illustrations in this book, and the way it was written was actually mildly annoying (Mr. Puberty being a particularly unsettling time, Babette Cole has made this the subject of the fifth title in her bestselling series of 'family dilemmas'.

The illustrations are silly, but also show girls and boys in their various stages of development in appropriate ways. There is one illustration of a bikini clad young woman with a "grown up body" walking down the beach smiling while getting ogled by two young men which I found very disturbing. An absolute gem that will have parents everywhere breathing a sigh of relief, Hair in Funny Places crosses the divide between picture book for the very young and informative light relief the older child, and is an absolute must-have for anyone pondering the progress of puberty. This book could never be used alongside SRE or Science to help explain the process of puberty because it is full of misleading and really quite unusual information. Although the illustrations of hormones as hairy, ugly monsters is a bit bizarre (though probably more true than we would like to admit), we really enjoyed this book.

This book does not go into "sex education" per se, but focuses instead on those basic changes that all boys and girls experience. This made it grow big and small whenever it wanted"") and nocturnal emissions (""some sticky stuff actually came out""). With her irresistible illustrations and wonderfully funny text, who better to guide us through all things hairy than the brilliant Babette Cole. It has been umpteen years since I read this book, and unless they have issued a new edition since then with better illustrations, I would have to say I didn't like it.Gleeful as ever in her cataloguing of gas-passing, nose-picking and other improprieties, Cole (The Bad Good Manners Book) introduces an almost incorrigible child. Brandishing her outrageously sly sense of humor, Cole (Mommy Laid an Egg) tweaks the topic of puberty in all of its glory, with predictably boisterous results. Cole firmly believed in children's right to knowledge about their own bodies and the accompanying pictures are never vulgar.

Who else but Babette Cole would have the temerity to tackle this subject in a picture book, and the genius to carry it off. It can be used to have or start conversations with kids about growth and changes ( physical and emotional), body positivity , consent and safety, reproduction. While the process of puberty for a women is shown very negatively, the process of puberty for a boy is very different, with images of a smiling boy embracing the changes happening in his body. Varmasti siitä syystä ehdotin kirjaa 7-vuotiaalle esikoiselleni, sillä tämä on samalla hauska tapa oppia paljon ihmisenä (fyysisesti) kasvamisesta.

It is the behaviour of Mr and Mrs Hormone (wonderfully depicted) which is responsible for and plays havoc with the physical and emotional states of girls and boys throughout puberty. Girls and boys are always curious and sometimes even alarmed by the behaviour of their bodies as they grow up. In spite of the promise of this book's title, nothing could prepare the reader for the wackiness inside. Cole's madcap style leaves no room for embarrassment; it could pave the way for more informative discussions between kids and adults. This book is bound to be controversial but Babette has never taken the conventional path and her readers love her for her outrageous approach to little mentioned topics.
