Having said all that, we now have had a strict no-crying policy at home, at least for the adults. I can hear Lindsey downstairs now, making breakfast for the kids. Soon she’ll drag me out of bed before showering me, getting me dressed, helping me down the stairs, giving me my medication and feeding me. Then she’ll start her day job, which during the coronavirus pandemic meant doing virtual physiotherapy consultations from home. Later in the day it’s the same routine in reverse. That answer sums up some of the reasons behind the success of this club," said Brian McDermott, the imposing Leeds coach. "Rob obviously wants to start games, but he's shown humility and integrity to do things for the benefit of the team. That's an example of the culture of the club." Burrow, who had already won the Harry Sunderland Trophy as man of the match in the first of the Rhinos' previous Old Trafford victories over Saints in 2007, scored a brilliant individual try in the first half, then laid on the match-winner late in the second for Ryan Hall with another thrilling scamper. Samuel Eto'o 'had a huge fight with Kevin De Bruyne' and Jose Mourinho 'made Mo Salah cry': Chelsea old guard reveal how they lost two superstars Things started deteriorating fast in March 2020, just three months after my diagnosis. That’s when Lindsey’s role changed. Almost overnight, she went from being a wife to my full-time carer. The book is told from Rob’s point of view and includes parts from family, friends and his team mates as well as a few others that know him. At the very end of the book, there are some pictures of Rob at various ages of his life. Rob mentions a few times how he doesn’t want the book to be self pitying but something positive and he did a great job. But, as she explains, “It keeps your mind off things. When I sit down on the bad days and think: ‘Actually this is happening, this is our life,’ it hits you. But the kids keep us busy and there’s never a dull moment, is there, Rob? I’d much rather that than feeling sorry for myself. Mohamed Salah calls for humanitarian aid to Gaza IMMEDIATELY as Liverpool star urges the world leaders 'to come together' There is a lot about his childhood and his determination to play rugby even though everyone thought he was too small. Not being a lover of rugby, I probably didn’t appreciate those parts as much as someone who is a lover of the sport would do but there are various funny moments throughout his career with his constant pranks with his team mates that made it compelling reading. Farewell Franny Lee: Football stars including Graeme Souness, Micah Richards and Mike Summerbee gather to mourn Man City ace who died aged 79 REVEALED: Read the first scout report of a 16-year-old Jude Bellingham (by a Premier League club who didn't sign him) Former Leeds Rhinos scrum-half Rob Burrow MBE was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in December 2019, just two years after ending his playing career by captaining Leeds to a record-extending eighth Super League Grand Final.

Now an MND Association Patron, Rob is one of an estimated 5,000 adults in the UK currently living with MND. Every day, an average of six people are diagnosed with MND. The MND Association focuses on improving access to care, funding research, and campaigning for people living with, or affected by, MND. Gary Neville slams Antony for his 'EMBARRASSING' swipe at Man City winger Jeremy Doku in the closing stages of United's 3-0 defeat I imagine the droll way Rob might have delivered that line 18 months ago. But was he scared on the field? While Rob begins typing, as if diligently doing his homework, I ask Lindsey if she felt fear watching him play. “Definitely. Rob’s small stature made me worry and, being a physiotherapist, I understood the injuries. I was always relieved after a game when he was still in one piece, a bit battered and bruised. Rob’s smile widens. “I felt on top of the world,” he says of the news about Maya. “All I want is to see my kids be happy and have fun. I’ve had a great life so I don’t need anything else. My sole goal is to see my kids reach some milestones and Maya’s achievement was amazing. It makes me want to see more triumphs.” Rob Burrow can no longer talk and yet, on a rainy bank holiday evening at home in Pontefract, he answers another of my questions about life and death. It feels almost magical as his familiar Yorkshire voice fills the room even though Burrow is smiling gently rather than moving his lips. “I don’t think you ever know your inner strength until you get told you are dying,” says the former Leeds Rhinos rugby league international who is a prisoner in his own body. “I would never have known I could be this positive when getting the news.”
