He is a Pokémon Trainer from Pallet Town whose goal is to become a Pokémon Master. His starter Pokémon was a Pikachu that he received from Professor Oak after arriving late at his laboratory. On his journeys around the Pokémon world, he's been accompanied by a multitude of close friends. In Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon, he becomes the first Champion of the Alola region's Pokémon League. In Pokémon Journeys: The Series, he becomes the new Monarch and World Champion of the Pokémon World Coronation Series. In mid-2010, server issues cropped up again. The reaction was more swift in the case, bringing upgraded servers, but new issues cropped up resulting in "session data loss" errors and involuntarily log-outs. It was later discovered that the server load balancer had malfunctioned and caused the issues. Ash is also quite dense when it comes to matters of the field of romance. Throughout the anime, Ash has only displayed open interest in a female only once, and nothing came out of it. Though some girls in the anime have shown obvious (and subtle) affection towards him, Ash meets it with nearly unfailing obtuseness, which some characters have also noticed. Even when it involves other people's romance, Ash is usually oblivious until someone points it out to him. Also, on a few occasions when it came to a matter of Pokémon love, with a male who's experiencing difficulty in gaining the attention of a female, while his friends will often mainly advise on improving the male's looks or charm, Ash's advice is simply to be stronger. Despite this, however, it is shown on several occasions that Ash does seem to understand the concept of marriage, most notably in The Professors' New Adventure, when he got excited by the news of Professor Kukui and Professor Burnet's engagement, and subsequently worked with his classmates to organize a big wedding ceremony for them. It's hard to believe we are already halfway through 2023! As we chug through this whirlwind of a year, I am pleased to share some recent administrative updates. As many of you may know, last month, Bulbapedia held a staff drive to recruit new members to our team. While we received many impressive applications, there were a few that particularly stood out. Please help me congratulate 4iamking, Anzasquiddles, Boblers, Landfish7, Nikuriku, and Storm Aurora who will be joining the team as Junior Administrators. Ash originally wanted a Squirtle to be his starter Pokémon, but Professor Oak told him it was taken by a Trainer who was not late. Dipplin, an evolution of Applin, which will be available in part 1. It has a new ability, Supersweet Syrup and a new move, Syrup Bomb. Time After Time! and The Mew from Here! are the only main series episodes during his time as a protagonist to not feature Ash in any capacity. Ash and Goh travel to each of the eight regions as research fellows. Ash wants to defeat Leon and Goh wants to catch each and every Pokémon including Mew. Ash takes part in the Pokémon World Coronation Series and Goh takes part in the trial missions of a research project called "Project Mew" to be a Chaser and find Mew. Ash defeats Leon in the final round of the Pokémon World Coronation Series: Masters Eight Tournament and becomes Monarch. Goh and other members of Project Mew travel to Faraway Island to find Mew. They encounter Mew and Goh befriends Mew instead of catching it. With their goals accomplished, Ash and Goh go their separate ways.

Shortly after returning home from his Sinnoh journey, Ash traveled with Delia and Professor Oak on a trip to the Unova region. After losing in a battle to Trip and seeing the power of the Legendary Pokémon Zekrom, Ash became interested in traveling Unova to meet new Pokémon, as well as new friends. In Unova, he brought along only his Pikachu as he did in Hoenn.

Ash, in his Pokémon Journeys: The Series attire, forms a sync pair with Pikachu in Pokémon Masters EX. Ash became a playable sync pair on August 28, 2022.

Once he gained the title of Champion in the Alola region, Ash became a local celebrity there, as seen in All Out, All of the Time! and Helping the Hometown Hero!. After becoming the World Coronation Series Monarch, Ash became a more recognized figure in other regions, as seen in A Squad's Worth of Passion!.
