When we put the Q27P2CA through its paces, it produced a great set of results, indicating that the panel is colourful (max 134% sRGB coverage) and accurate (an average Delta E of 1.16 in sRGB mode). It’s bright and punchy, too – suitable for any working environment from well-lit kitchens to dingy makeshift offices. When work is done, these monitors are the perfect partner for light gaming, as they come with a 4 ms GtG response time for fast and smooth pixel transitions and Adaptive-Sync support to synchronise the monitor’s refresh rate with the GPU’s framerate to achieve tear-free visuals. The QHD models Q32P2CA and Q27P2CA also offer a 75 Hz refresh rate as opposed to the common 60 Hz refresh rate, providing a 25% smoother visual experience when observing fast moving objects or cursor movements. The biggest issue, however, is simply that this monitor doesn’t take full advantage of its resolution. For office work, I’d recommend a panel size of 32in or above to make the most of those extra pixels: at those sorts of sizes, the 4K resolution really comes into its own, allowing you to squeeze more in on screen much more comfortably than on a smaller display. Given that AOC’s own U32P2CA fills that niche nicely, however, it’s hard to see where the U27P2CA fits in. There’s one more similarity to note between the two panels, but it isn’t a flattering one. Like its sibling, the U27P2CA has a tendency to wobble a bit on its stand. It’s not awful by any means but if you spend a lot of time typing you will notice it bobbing away in time. There are some areas where the AOC U27P2CA isn't as good as it could be – it's HDMI 2.0 and 60Hz only for example. It's these sorts of compromises and trade-offs that you need to weigh up if this monitor is anywhere near your shopping list. You will occasionally find 1440p VA LCD panels, particularly if you’re looking for cheap gaming monitors. These offer fantastic contrast and good colours but weaker viewing angles and higher response times than IPS. This is a 1440p monitor with a VA panel that boasts a 1ms G2G response time, a 240Hz refresh rate and HDR 600 support (complete with rudimentary local dimming). It’s sensationally bright – topping out at just under the stated 600 nits in our tests – and produces an equally impressive contrast ratio. As you’d imagine, gaming on this thing is a delight: 1440p at 240Hz might not always be possible but you’ll consistently benefit from the vivid colours, impressive HDR (for the price) and the aggressive, immersive 1000R curvature. There’s also very little ghosting, something many VA panels struggle with. The Q27V4EA performed well on test, producing 88.7% of the sRGB colour gamut with minimal variation – meaning you’re seeing sRGB content as the creator intended. Contrast reached 850:1, which is par for the course where IPS panels are concerned, while luminance (brightness) peaked at 250cd/m² – good enough for any indoor environment. We’d also point out that this monitor refreshes at 75Hz with a 4ms response time (G2G), meaning it isn’t totally hopeless for gaming. In keeping with everything else about this 4K monitor, the on-screen menu is business-like and functional. It's operated via four rather sombre and utilitarian buttons on the bottom edge of the display, giving you control over input selection, contrast, brightness, colour temperature, the picture-in-picture mode, and plenty more besides. It's all very straightforward and simple to operate.

The AOC Q27P2Q offers 100% sRGB and 88% DCI-P3 coverage which is excellent for daily use, included editing for web content. The screen offers great accuracy out of the box since its deltaE average is limited to 1.30, so you won’t need to calibrate it right away. The screen already looks balanced by default, so you only need minor tweaks like adjusting the brightness before using it. Overall we think the AOC U27P2CA gets that balance just about right, and we'd recommend it to anyone looking for a 4K office monitor that covers all the basics, especially if connectivity and versatility are important.
