The Unadoptables: Five fantastic children on the adventure of

The Unadoptables is such an amazing read with five children who you want to be friends with as soon as you meet them! I ended up reading the book in less than two weeks as I was so captivated by what was written and struggled to put it down.’ Es súper divertido, van a pasar un rato ameno leyéndolo. Van a sacar sus teorías y todo desde un lado muy chill e inocente. Porque eso es el libro, algo muy tranquilo para leer y simplemente disfrutar del rato. When a poison tide flowing across the ocean threatens their island, Roz works with the resident creatures to ensure that they will have clean water, but the destruction of vegetation and crowding of habitats jeopardize everyone’s survival. Brown’s tale of environmental depredation and turmoil is by turns poignant, graceful, endearing, and inspiring, with his (mostly) gentle robot protagonist at its heart. Though Roz is different from the creatures she lives with or encounters—including her son, Brightbill the goose, and his new mate, Glimmerwing—she makes connections through her versatile communication abilities and her desire to understand and help others. When Roz accidentally discovers that the replacement body given to her by Dr. Molovo is waterproof, she sets out to seek help and discovers the human-engineered source of the toxic tide. Brown’s rich descriptions of undersea landscapes, entertaining conversations between Roz and wild creatures, and concise yet powerful explanations of the effect of the poison tide on the ecology of the island are superb. Simple, spare illustrations offer just enough glimpses of Roz and her surroundings to spark the imagination. The climactic confrontation pits oceangoing mammals, seabirds, fish, and even zooplankton against hardware and technology in a nicely choreographed battle. But it is Roz’s heroism and peacemaking that save the day. Milou,' Lotta said softly. 'We need adoption papers to leave. And no one except that horrid merchant wants us.' the fear of being returned or being abandoned again, as it is for many children in the system, is one that plagues many Looked After Children – thank you for making it into a joke).

A note from author Hana Tooke

Warm-hearted and mysterious The Unadoptables is a wonderfully entertaining adventure with a cast of fascinating characters set in a brilliantly evoked old-world Amsterdam and the surrounding countryside. Following the clues from the only possessions she was left with when she was abandoned as a baby and guided by her ‘Book of Theories’, the imaginative Milou leads her four friends – the least adoptable children in the very horrible Little Tulip Orphanage – to her family home where she is sure she will find her parents. Travelling through a freezing night the children arrive at their destination. But there is not the welcome they had expected. Where are Milou’s parents? And what is the mystery they need to solve? The creative ways in which the five children manage first to escape from the evil clutches of their matron and her evil accomplice Rotman and then to make a new life for themselves bamboozling neighbours and unravelling the mystery is vivid and captivating. Robot Roz undertakes an unusual ocean journey to save her adopted island home in this third series entry. The amazing humour and world-building of NEVERMOOR meets the wisdom and warmth of ROOFTOPPERS in this most un-ordinary adventure about five amazing children . . . THE UNADOPTABLES by Hana Tooke.

But Milou and her gang can’t wait any longer – there’s a decidedly dastardly looking man who’s arrived to adopt them, and it doesn’t look like he’s the type to want to welcome the orphans into a loving family home. If Milou wants to find her real parents, they’re going to have to run away – and Milou’s going to have to come face to face with her own destiny a lot sooner than she thought… That said, this is certainly not the last you’ll see of this world. My second book is an ‘equal’, in a way. It is set in the same universe and features a main character that you’ve already met before in The Unadoptables. It’s in a different European city, delving slightly deeper into that science vs mysticism dynamic I mentioned earlier. Five babies are abandoned and taken into an orphanage in 19 th century Amsterdam. The eldest , Milou , i s convinced her puppet-making parents didn’t want to leave her . The book describes the adventures of the five ‘unadoptable’ children as they escape the orphanage and search the city for Milou’s birth family. Ahora, tengo que admitir que no me llegó como pensé que lo haría ni la historia tampoco. Los middle-grade que me marcan son esos que:

Chapter 10

The amazing humour and world-building of Nevermoor meets the wisdom and warmth of Rooftoppers in this most un-ordinary adventure about five amazing children . . . Effortlessly merging the gothic and ghastly with the eccentric and absurd, Hana Tooke's mesmerising debut sends a quintet of abandoned orphans off on a caper across nineteenth-century Amsterdam, complete with sinister supervillains, heart-in-mouth cliff-hangers and lashings of evocative period flavour. Waterstones Blog, 'Best Books to Look Out For in 2020' Holy Gouda! This spectacular story of friendship, belonging and daring adventure had me hooked from start to finish! Deep in the heart of Amsterdam sits a tall, narrow house. This is the Little Tulip Orphanage, a place of minimal suppers and very strict rules. Everything – including abandonment – is regulated. I was so excited about this book and fully expected to love it. I was ready to support my fellow Dutch folk and rec this to everyone.
