About this deal

Writing the final scene was special. I'd dreamt about it for a long time. And the anticipation felt palpable to me, really emotional. I think I'm as proud of that chapter as anything I've ever written. I can't say any more without spoilers!!

I once read a book called "Goose Road" and it was about a girl, during the war, who had a family of geese that she was determined to care for despite all the odds. While the Storm Rages feels just like that, but not in a copycat kind of way, just in the same way that it exudes warmth and hope. Plus, I truly believe you can judge all you need to about a person by the way they treat animals (particularly those that aren't there own!). It is 1939, and as Noah’s dad leaves to go to war he makes Noah promise to keep their family dog safe. Yet the government advises people to have their pets put down in readiness for the chaos of war, and when Noah himself faced with evacuation he decides to run away. Together with his two friends, they take their pets and head for Windsor in search of an animal-loving Duchess. September 1939. The world is on the brink of war. As his dad marches off to fight, Noah makes him a promise, to keep their beloved family dog safe. When the Sky Falls, set during 1941, gives a very real feel for life at the time and what it must have been like to endure air raids - how did you find so much detail about this?

eARC received from Andersen Press via NetGalley in an exchange for an honest review. This title releases on the 2nd June 2022. From the best-selling and multi-award-winning author, Phil Earle, comes a second masterly story all about bravery, wartime, loyalty and the much-needed companionship of pets.

They are forced to discover what it means to be brave and just what they’re made of. Responsibility for another living thing proves to be more than they ever realised – food, water, warmth, safety… things they once took for granted are now everything. Great book set at the start of WW2. The history link is something I didn't know and found myself reading more about after finishing the book. As Noah Price's dad marches off to fight, he asks his son to honour one vital promise: that he will keep their dog, Winn, safe. No matter what. Noah agrees, but his best intentions are crushed when the government advises people to have their pets put to sleep as part of the war preparations. (see below). Children are heartbroken, and queues outside vets' surgeries stretch for miles. But Noah is a resourceful, impetuous child. He won't just do what he is told, far from it. With his two friends in tow, Noah makes a pledge. To go on the run and save as many animals as he can: Whatever the cost.As equally heart-warming as it is heartbreaking, you will fall even further in love with Phil Earl's masterful storytelling abilities.
