Description

it's just a wonderful, magical book in which all the moominroots can be seen and it is charming and sweet but also very dark, as all the best children's books are.

The earliest production was a 1949 theatrical version of Comet in Moominland performed at Åbo Svenska Teater. Now at last I know what happened before the events of Comet in Moominland and it's a wild ride, especially the culmination of the story. I loved Moominmamma in particular - she's tough and feisty, every inch the mother protecting her child and herself, and seems to know everything, as all mammas should. Then there are the wonderful trademark illustrations by the author, of her off-beat world and its strange northern jungles. This book is worth the very long wait to read it. Read more Despite the melancholy, Great Flood is still taking the reader towards a good place and we get the ending that we expect and deserve - the family is reunited and all ready to set up home in Moominhouse, which is built in the shape of a round stove, a reference to the stoves that moomintrolls used to live in until the advent of central heating. Despite the suggestions of despair through the story, there is still a consistent thread of reassurance in the shape of Moominmamma - her handbag will nearly always have a solution and her arms are always open to any creature in distress. There are times when even as an adult I would love to have someone like her to turn to. The only collection of Moomin short stories that Tove wrote. Featuring the much loved stories The Invisible Child and The Fir Tree – the Moomins’ gloriously funny and generous take on Christmas – Tales from Moominvalley collects together nine delightful Moomin short stories. Highlights include The Spring Tune and The Last Dragon in the World, revealing the true essence of friendship.

Die Mumins. Das ist ein bißchen wie “nach Hause kommen” - vertraut, voll Wärme und Liebe, Geborgenheit und Sicherheit, bestenfalls erfüllt von den Menschen, die wir lieben. Tove Jansson wrote and illustrated her first Moomin book, The Moomins and the Great Flood (1945), during World War II. She said later that the war had depressed her, and she had wanted to write something naive and innocent. Besides the Moomin novels and short stories, Tove Jansson also wrote and illustrated four original and highly popular picture books. Several stage productions have been made from Jansson's Moomin series, including a number that Jansson herself was involved in. In all, nine books were released in the series, together with four picture books and a comic strip being released between 1954 and 1975.

The Moomins and the Great Flood (Swedish: Småtrollen och den stora översvämningen, literally The Little Trolls and the Great Flood) is a book written by Finnish author Tove Jansson in 1945, during the last months of World War II. [1] It was the first book to star the Moomins, but is often seen as a prelude to the main Moomin books, as most of the main characters are introduced in the next book. [2] Plot [ edit ] What did surprise me a lot was Tove’s artistic skill! I had no idea she drew at all (I know, my bad) and her illustrations totally enchanted me. Wow! So simple in some occasions but full of feeling. I’m in awe!

I remember my impression reading the Moomin stories as a child – and I still get it as I read this book for the first time, many years later – that there are interior and exterior worlds in Moominland. Jansson, as a Finnish author, was used to the cold of winter, and she imbues her stories with both the threat and magic of the winter months, and the subsequent world of summer and its opportunities. But what stood out to me as a child was the emphasis on finding homes and safe havens – a map of the Moomin house is reproduced in Finn Family Moomintroll and the Moomin house is a feature of the theme parks in Finland and Japan – whether they be the haven of family, the family home or even the lighthouse Moominpappa moves the family to in Moominpappa at Sea. Each book has a sense of the mystery and magic of the wilder world and its dangers, balanced by this sense of haven represented by family and home. The Moomins also appeared in the form of comic strips. Their first appearance was in 1947 in the children's section of the Ny Tid newspaper, [14] and they were introduced internationally to English readers in 1954 in the popular London newspaper The Evening News. [15] [16] Tove Jansson drew and wrote all the strips until 1959. She shared the work load with her brother Lars Jansson until 1961; after that he took over the job until 1975 when the last strip was released. [17] Scandinavia House – The Nordic Center in America".
