About this deal

If only I could hear the difference between 681/668. If I would go for 681, I would take the original version as you recommended.

Enough blabbering - these headphones are absolutely worth the price. The sound is pretty clear and the phones are comfortable to wear. They are a little bass heavy though so keep that in mind if you are considering between these and some other ones. But for my purpose, casual music listening while in work, they are just perfect. They are semi-open, but I'd be ready to call them open. It's good when someone tries to reach out from outside as they don't need to shout. On the other hand they are massive enough to be seen so other understand that they might need to raise voice — good perk compared to earphones. Anyways I'll just try to EQ them some more for now. I will get new headphones somewhat soon, until then I'll use these. Thanks for a great reply. I kind of excluded the F version from the start, but still cannot decide between the classic 681 and B version. I excluded the F mainly because as you pointed out, the treble "which in the F model only becomes more dominant." The bass goes nice and low with adequate impact. Not too much to say about the mids. These things have too much in the high-end. They can be pretty shrill at times though a bit though an EQ helped a lot. The mids came out astoundingly clear for the price. Vocals are well done and crisp. Not too much I can say about this -- I found the mids to be very pleasing. So, dare one speak of sound quality on €19,95 headphones ? At first I was disapointed... a lot ! Couldn't understand why all these guys were bragging about it on the bassguitar forum. I'll try to paint the picture:

As mostly happens with headphones tuned with very bright and detailed highs, piercing highs can show up at times but, honestly, their piercing highs are not too strong, it is their sibilance that is recurrent. To be noted, as the Superlux HD681 are studio monitoring headphones they come with a long 2.5 m cable that could be a bit strange to manage if you are planning to use them while walking through the streets of your city (though by design they were not created to be used during daily commuting or even outside a studio or home)

You will get a phenomenal headphone for very few Dollars / Euros / Pounds / Yen / Yuan / Bitcoins / Ounces of Gold / You Name It.

One criticism of the headphones is the plastic build quality. It, not the same sturdy plastic the company users of the HD660 which themselves were, by all means, a budget set of tanks. The Evo, unfortunately, has that cheap kind of plastic feel and as such feels slightly fragile and brittle. As long as you take care of them you should not have any problems but it is certainly something to consider for those who have the tendency to be a bit rough with their gear.
