Carpal tunnel syndrome - pins and needles, thumb weakness, dull ache in hand or arm caused by compression of the median nerve (which controls sensation and movement in the hands) The main reason for looking into these sorts of computer mouse is that I read something about Repetitive Strain Injury not long ago and it really made me think why the old school computer mouse isn't banned yet. It went into quite some depth of many people saying that RSI has become intolerably painful for them, due to using a standard mouse on a day to day basis. As with many day to day things, RSI accumulates with time due to the the wrist not being in a neutral "hand shake" position. Where a computer mouse is needed in a workplace, it should be made law that a vertical style should be used. As long as it ain't this one. Again, more on that later on. On the other hand, you get two ergonomic mice for the price of one, which is fantastic to have if you can operate a mouse with both hands. This is the best feature of the Penguin mouse, along with the fact that it forces you to use your arm muscles for movement. For that, lower DPI settings are better for precision work. The Penguin mouse is available in three sizes. To choose the correct one for you, measure your hand from the first crease on your wrist to the tip of your middle finger. A: Fellowes Penguin ® Ambidextrous Vertical Mouse contains built in biocidal products for the protection against the growth of bacteria which cause mould, odour and product deterioration. Simpler design. At first, I liked all the extra configurable buttons on the Evoluent, but I didn't, ultimately, make great use of them and found that they could get in the way. With so many buttons, it was easy to mis-press one. I prefer the elegant, basic design of the penguin with just a primary and secondary button with a scroll wheel. A: The Penguin ® has a low power level indicator. The ‘P’ light will turn ice blue and begin flashing when the Penguin ® has low battery (approximately 20% charge remaining). The sensitivity and 'dead zone' for initial movement is WAY off. I'll try to explain, you know when you stop moving the mouse, then you start to move it really slowly again, exactly like the movements necessary to aim down sight or a scope to shoot in games? It's just awful. It's like it doesn't register minute movements. No matter what setting you set the DPI to, nothing improved it. I even tried a free program called X Mouse Button Control to adjust it, but to no avail.

The VerticalMouse 4's design has been flipped sideways to encourage the hand into a handshake position, which avoids forearm twisting for better comfort and good health. Many users, including medical doctors, ergonomists and physical therapists have said the Evoluent VerticalMouse provides superior comfort and even relieved wrist pain. Over the last thirty or forty years, the use of computers has proliferated. While in 1985 only 13% of UK households had a desktop computer, now that percentage is at least 85%. With most of us using computers daily - often for long periods of time, we’re now starting to see the impact of this on our bodies. The duration, terms and conditions of this warranty are valid worldwide, except where different limitations, restrictions or conditions may be required by local law. A reflective surface may cause pointer drift. Put the VerticalMouse on a non-reflective mouse pad, such as a fabric pad. Q: How do I disable a button?Bottom-of-hand rest. The wide lip at the bottom of the mouse allows you to rest your hand without rubbing it against the desk. For many people, an issue with vertical mice is that the edge of their hand and pinky end up rubbing against the desk. I didn't have much of a problem with that, but I did tend to keep my hand up, even when at rest. The Penguin's design allows my hand to be more relaxed. ADVANCED ERGONOMIC DESIGN: the Penguin Wired Mouse features a vertical design that sets new standards of protection against a range of upper limb conditions caused by extensive computer/laptop use, such as repetitive strain injury (RSI) and carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) Comfortable grip. While the Evoluent handshake grip is much more comfortable than a traditional horizontal mouse, I found that it was easy to unintentionally press buttons when resting or moving. The Penguins grip take a bit more time to get used to than the Evoluent, but in the long run, I find it to be even more comfortable. You are much less likely to mis-press a button. Also, it feels much more solid than the Evoluent. Specifically designed to reduce health problems associated with computer users spending too much time using a conventional mouse. The unique “handle grip” protects against a range of upper limb conditions such as RSI and Carpal Tunnel by putting the working arm in a natural position and not allowing the bones in the forearm to cross over.

First off, just a head's up, this quite lengthy review becomes partly a rant later on, but it's completely justifiable 👍😜The Penguin® was put to the test during trials carried out by VSI Risk Management and Ergonomics Inc., and the University of Brighton in the UK. The idea behind the Penguin mice is to enable users to use both their right and left hands to share the workload and minimise overuse of one hand. The Penguin mouse is also perfect for hot-desking by enabling both left and right handed users to share the same desk and utilise the ergonomic benefits of the mouse. An ordinary horizontal mouse requires your forearm to twist away from its natural position, which can cause painful injuries in the long term. The Fellowes Penguin® is available in small, medium and large. This ensures that the hand and grip is in the most natural, ergonomic position. The battery lasts a really long time. A USB charging cable is supplied, and here's my only gripe - rather than using micro USB or USB-C, they've used a proprietary charging port so if you lose the cable you're in trouble. Battery charge is indicated by an LED behing the "penguin/spine" logo on the unit. So far mine has lasted about a month without needing a recharge.
