Description

The Owari Satsuma is an ideal dwarf citrus tree for people who want seedless orange in cold climates. This tree is cold-hardy and produces a sweet-scented white bloom, and it yields citrus fruits that are abundant, juicy, and sweet. How often you water your indoor orange tree will depend on several things, such as the type of pot you’re using, the type of soil it’s planted in, and what time of year it is. The size of your orange tree will also play a role in how much and how often you water. Larger plants will need more water to sustain them. Seasonal Watering If your houseplants could use a little extra TLC- you’ve come to the right place. Our houseplant hub has all the expert tips and advice you need to be the coolest plant parent in town. You’ll find it all in our care guides, from caring for cute succulents to feeding a fierce Ficus. You may also need to clean the plant’s leaves with a damp, soft cloth periodically to remove dust and keep the plant free of pests. See my post on How to Clean Your Houseplant’s Leaves for more information on this topic. Troubleshooting

If your dwarf orange tree isn’t getting its daily dose of sunshine, it will throw a bit of a temper tantrum. You might notice a few signs: Add a layer of mulch around the planting area, including in the moat. Slowly fill the moat with water. Keep the water dribbling away in the full basin for half an hour or so, wait two or three days and do it again, then leave the plant alone until it needs watering. Plant Calamondin orange in any high-quality potting soil with good water retention. Water your mini orange tree when the top inch of soil is dry to the touch. Allow the water to seep down to the roots and be sure to empty any excess water from the saucer beneath the pot. Fertilize your orange tree once every two weeks during the growing season with a balanced fertilizer.

When setting plants out in the garden, the citrus-specific planting mix should be combined with the soil removed from the hole in a ratio of one part mix to one part native soil.

Orange trees sometimes drop a few leaves in the winter months. One or two leaves is okay, but more than that and you’ll want to make conditions a little more comfortable for your orange tree if you want it to survive. But when it comes to small trees that produce fresh orange fruit, you can’t go wrong with the clementine. Clementines are heat tolerant and drought resistant, and its sweet, easy-to-peel, small orange fruit is a favorite with kids.
