As enjoyable as day-time photography on the P50 Pro is, there are a few caveats. First, the camera’s shutter speed is on the slower side, and we often found ourselves waiting a split-second before a photo was taken. In most situations this won’t be a big deal, but if you ever find yourself trying to capture a fleeting moment you could potentially miss the shot. The P50 Pro has 64MP telephoto , 50MP main, 40MP monochrome and 13MP ultra-wide cameras – that's a series of very high-res snappers, with the periscope one apparently facilitating a head-scratching 200x digital zoom (as well as 3.5x optical). Huawei makes every effort at the time of publication to ensure the accuracy of product information it provides. Due to subsequent changes involving product batches, production and supply factors, it may be necessary for Huawei to make changes and adjustments to text and images so that they match the performance, specifications, indexes, and components of the actual product. Product information is subject to such changes and adjustments without notice. It wasn’t long ago Huawei was telling us we need 5G to live our best mobile lives, and this missing feature impacts the future-proofing of Huawei’s new flagship.

Colour levels can also be subdued or boosted with "normal" or "vivid" settings but you get dazzling quality regardless of which option you select. Under the vivid setting, the display scored 100% for sRGB colour coverage (and 143.5% for volume) which is a percentage above the 99% scored by the Samsung S21 Ultra. That quality was very much apparent in day to day use, as we enjoyed a crisp and colourful display. What's more, its brightness peaked at 532 cd/m2 which not only looks good on paper, it was more than adequate for almost all weather conditions the UK could muster. Huawei continues to march forward - with or without Google

Huawei also loads up the phone with a tonne of shooting modes: Monochrome, Dual-View, Snapshot, AR Lens, Story Creator and all your standards like Pro mode and Panorama. These all just add to a fundamentally reliable camera experience, and while the P50 Pro’s photos don’t look as natural and flat as those captured on Sony phones like the Xperia I III and the Xperia Pro-I, the results will be preferable for most.

Zoom range is the maximum zoom ratio divided by the ultra wide-angle magnification. The focal lengths on HUAWEI Mate 50 Pro are 24 mm (ultra-aperture camera), 13 mm (ultra-wide angle camera), and 90 mm (telephoto camera). W is the maximum charging power, and can only be reached when the dedicated 66 W HUAWEI SuperCharge charger and cable are used. All new Huawei P50 phones run HarmonyOS 2, the company's Android rival that it unveiled earlier in the year. Admittedly the software doesn't feel a million miles from Android, but it brings a few changes. Beyond typically top-end specs like a 6.6-inch 1228 x 2700 screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, the Huawei P50 Pro really looks to stand out with its cameras, which include a 50MP main snapper, a 13MP ultra-wide, a 40MP monochrome, and a 64MP telephoto, with 3.5x optical zoom and 200x digital zoom.Unsurprisingly, the P50 Pro in the UK gets the same configuration of core componentry as the Chinese version, consisting of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. There’s no Huawei-made Kirin chipset this year, which is a rather strange decision, but what’s even weirder is that this is the 4G-only Snapdragon.

My only slight complaint with the P50 Pro’s screen is that peak HDR brightness is rather low – we measured the iPhone 13 Pro at 1,200 cd/m², which is almost double what the P50 Pro managed in our tests. Huawei P50 Pro review: Performance and battery life Partying like it’s 2018, we have a high-priced flagship that’s unable to connect to the 5G network in the UK. Why Huawei stripped the P50 Pro of its 5G capabilities is anyone’s guess, especially when the previous P40 Pro (which launched in 2019) didn’t have such restrictions. It’s utterly bizarre. Elsewhere, but phones offer 8GB of RAM as standard, but there’s also a 12GB version of the P50 Pro in some regions. Meanwhile, both phones offer 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage options. Again, though, this depends on your region. Battery
