During the Arks of Omen Campaign, Dante was the first high-ranking Imperial official to discover that Lion El'Jonson had returned after ten thousand years of absence after investigating reports of his return. Dante informed the Lion of recent developments in the Galaxy and that Roboute Guilliman lived. [17] Taking the Lion aboard his flagship Absolution's Ire, Dante and Imperial Navy reinforcements made for the Somnium Stars to rescue the Dark Angels and Unforgiven from the clutches of Vashtorr. [16a] Mayfly–December Romance: Apocryphal earlier editions suggested he was or had been at one point married to a normal mortal woman. The first known occurrence of the Red Thirst took place during the time of Sanguinius. Cases were rare at first, but occurred more as the Great Crusade went on. Sanguinius confided in Horus, who used the information to try and turn the Blood Angels to Chaos on the Daemon-haunted planet of Signus Prime. Even though Sanguinius eventually defeated the Exalted Bloodthirster Ka’Bandha, the creature’s terrible presence roused an unwholesome fury within his sons, much to the Primarch’s concern.*

Angel Exemplar – 1CP –You can give a BLOOD ANGELS WARLORD who is not a named character an additional Warlord trait, which must be a Blood Angels trait (or a Flesh Tearers trait if they are from the Flesh Tearers). One use only and all traits must be unique. Blood Angels have some good Warlord traits and being able to double up on them, or get one on top of a base Codex trait, is a good use of 1CP. For many generations of the Blood Angels, these prophecies had been read as Sanguinius's foreknowledge of his own fate. Yet through some instinct- perhaps a lingering trace of his Primarch's fabled far-seeing eye, or his own prophetic dreams of the golden warrior [8a], Dante believed otherwise. He frequently believed that one day, the defence of the Emperor would possibly rest in his hands, and he aimed to fulfill that final duty. Sanguinary Guard are one of your build-around units for Blood Angels and this makes coming near them a tough prospect. B Blood Angels also have a habit of sleeping whenever possible in the sarcophagi used to create them. They apparently believe that it is in this slumber that they are one step closer to Sanguinius and seek to gain insight into the psyche of their forefather. This includes Bloodstone gems, from the deep caves of the Cruor Mountain on Baal and the larvae of the Spinewyrm fauna. Bloodthirsty sand clams are also needed, as the white pigment used to paint the Chapter's angel wings, can only be obtained by crushing clams' shells. [57c] Tactics

But all hope is not lost. The Primarch Roboute Guilliman has returned from deathless sleep, and appointed Commander Dante, lord of the Blood Angels, as Regent and Warden of the newly dubbed Imperium Nihilus.

All Chapters descended from the Blood Angels maintain units of Sanguinary Guard as a legacy of their parent Legion, and all follow the same color scheme except for the Angels Encarmine, whose Sanguinary Guard wear alabaster-white colored armour instead. [4n] Deathstorm Strike Force Nassir Amit — Captain of the Fifth Company, later founder and first Chapter Master of the Flesh Tearers [20c] One thing to note is that there was previously some controversy over whether this doctrine could be accessed when your army was not actually in the Assault Doctrine, such as by use of the Blood Chalice ability or the Adaptive Strategy stratagem. This argument hinged on a wording technicality, but as of the most recent FAQ to Codex: Space Marines it is confirmed that you do get your doctrine bonus, which substantially elevates the use of Sanguinary Priests in particular.
