About this deal

At 4.02 lbs weighed, this drops into our review as the heaviest bag. It has a nice, wide shoulder strap to distribute the load, but it is easy to make this bag really heavy (because it is also large), so when it is fully loaded, it really weighs mightily on your left shoulder. This bag had one of the higher capacities in our OGL Volume and Load Tests, but because of the heavy starting (or empty) weight of the bag, it had one of the lower Volume/Weight Ratios. Best Applications Unlike other messenger bags, unfortunately the Citizen by Chrome does not come in multiple sizes to choose from. You have one size which can be off-putting for someone who needs a larger or smaller bag that what is offered. The dimensions for the bag are: 22”W x 13”H x 7”D and weighs just over two pounds.

Comfort can be enhanced with a wide shoulder strap that will help to spread the load and avoid pinch points on your shoulder. Pin No matter the color scheme you choose, the Chrome Citizen comes with front and rear reflective hits. For this Chrome Citizen review I chose the the best selling Night series is much more visible at a night. A simple, functional design: This is a common theme I see in durable designs…they are tough, uncomplicated, and well-thought-out.

The shoulder strap has a front-facing ribbon of reflective material to warn oncoming traffic while the closure straps on the flap keep you visible to traffic behind you.

I did find a couple small thread ends that hadn’t been trimmed and I would have liked to have seen double stitching along the lip of the flap and around the mouth of the main compartment. Comfort & Carry Being safe means being seen. If you typically ride in dark conditions, it is worth looking for a bag that has plenty of reflective features and sensible loops for a light. Compartments and Laptops The Chrome Citizen Messenger bag is perhaps the most comfortable messenger bag on the market which is one of the top reasons to consider this bag. Chrome has designed the bag so well that it makes riding with the bag just as enjoyable as if you weren’t even wearing it. If you decide to buy the separate laptop sleeve then at least you’ll be able to utilize the internal fasteners that come with this messenger bag. Which is great as some cargo you carry around might be expensive or delicate and you want to make sure that nothing is getting thrown around in there. Each to his own. I have Timbuk2 22 litre messenger bag and a few others…..but rarely use these. Instead I utilize my very old Mountain Equipment Coop MBag, now over 20 plus years old. MEC is sort of like REI, but was a true coop, but now bought out. Anyway….The zippered, padded laptop sleeve, enhanced organization, and a briefcase carry handle make this bag a step up from the Chrome Mini Metro for your office needs. It is in some ways the high capacity, larger cousin of the Mini Metro. The Buran II is a great and stylish messenger bag if you need a very rugged, high volume bag, but these needs must outweigh the need for light weight; otherwise, it will feel cumbersome and heavy and you'll struggle to justify its purpose in your quiver of bags. Value The Chrome Citizen is designed as a platform for a wide variety of professionals. The idea is to build onto it and customize to your needs. Peak Design is a company that prides itself on designing user-friendly products for carrying camera equipment and electronics with ease. The Everyday Messenger is no exception. This feature-rich bag has ambidextrous carrying capacities and provides great organization for camera equipment and other electronics. It is weather-resistant (though not waterproof), mounts easily onto the trolley handle of wheeled luggage for travel, and sits upright for easy access to your gear. For the right person or photographer, this bag is an exceptional option. Since most people will have to carry a laptop, even occasionally, protection from rain is vital. Most manufacturers know this and produce bags with sufficient water-resistance.

When choosing the right messenger bag for your needs, the capacity of the bag should be the number one priority. The size of your laptop will dictate how big you will need this compartment. Typically, messenger bags can comfortably fit 13-inch laptops. The strap is widened at the shoulder, which is why it is so comfortable compared to other messengers. This distributes the weight very evenly across the shoulder without discomfort or friction points. The Timbuk2 Classic Messenger is just that – a classic. It does a great job on the bike without reinventing the wheel. A top handle would be a been nice addition to the Citizen. I like having multiple carry options at work, not just shoulder carry. Style

Our Verdict

The genesis of the Arc’Teryx Granville 10 Courier Bag comes from designing a bag that meets the needs of those who want a smaller, more streamlined messenger bag.

Waterproof laptop sleeve, weather-resistant, great features, ambidextrous, brightly colored interior Comfortable, compact, intuitive design, easy on/off, reflective panel for higher visibility at night The Chrome Citizen is over-engineered to withstand far more than consumer-grade bags. This bag is made from 1000D water-repellant Cordura. It has very high abrasion resistance and excellent tear strength. They may be better known for their iconic saddles but Brooks have also made something of a design classic with the Strand messenger bag.

Customer reviews

Most people would simply choose a bag with a large capacity and never worry about being able to fit everything in. In reality, the bigger the bag, the more bulk you have to carry with you every time you get in the saddle.
