The cataclysmic and ongoing war that ensued stretched the military capacity of the Adeptus Ministorum to near-breaking point. The Imperial forces withstood the invaders, though the planet was transformed into a brutal, unending war zone.As well as being the elite wing of the Astra Militarum, the Ordo Tempestus is the training ground for the Imperium's finest martial operatives outside of the legendary Adeptus Astartes. It works alongside the Schola Progenium, whose facilities are governed by the Ecclesiarchy, to provide key Imperial institutions with the best recruits the galaxy can provide.

The majority of these cadets are assigned to the Schola Tempestus, where they complete the gruelling training necessary to become Tempestus Scions. The death rate amongst each standard year group of recruits is high, for the Schola Tempestus is as merciless as it is efficient. Within the Imperial military, some Planetary Defence Forces and individual sectors or sub-sectors of the Imperium possess their own Commissariat who maintain authority over the local military forces in their region of the galaxy.Some weapons have ‘Blast’ listed in their profile’s abilities. These are referred to as Blast weapons. In addition to the normal rules, the following rules apply to Blast weapons: Those who pass through the Schola Progenium are called Progena, and they receive an education like no other. The fundamental cornerstone of life in the Schola Progenium is harsh discipline. From the day they first don their grey garb, the Progena learn that the God-Emperor has no use for infirmity of purpose or weakness, and pain is merely an illusion of an untrained mind. They were used almost exclusively for garrison and pacification roles on both their home and foreign worlds throughout the early stages of the crusade, but by the latter half, they were fighting offensive battles and supplementing the Space Marine Legions as the Astartes began to be stretched too thinly across the growing Imperium. Plus, with the possibility of Warhammer 40k 10th edition on the horizon, maybe they will release him sort of as they did with Gaunt and a little hold-over for Imperial Guard players halfway through the edition. An Ensign is a junior Krieg officer who has been chosen to carry the regimental or company banner. It is considered a great honour to be chosen and marks the officer as one with the potential to rise to the highest ranks within the regiment. The rank of ensign carriers a short term of service, so an officer will not be expected to act as the banner bearer for long before being moved on to a combat command with a frontline platoon or a Death Rider squadron. An Ensign often accompanies his regiment's Commissar wherever he goes on the battlefield, so that the regimental banner can serve as a rallying point and act as an inspiration to the men and women of the regiment.
