Description

Due to the nature of bird control issues, the areas needing to be proofed will often be high up on your property and hard to access. If you intend to do the bird-proofing yourself, you must be confident using ladders and working at height. If you cannot do the work yourself, please get in touch with a roofer, pest control company or handyman to assist you. Base Colour – Transparent clear base blends well with most surfaces irrespective of the surface colour Gulls are a high profile issue in the UK and increasingly urban property and areas need to be protected. There are many seagull deterrents and control measures that can be put in place to avoid disruption and menace that gulls bring. Large, flat surfaces like roofs are extremely attractive to seagulls. It may be that the gulls are gathering at the perimeter against parapets that protect them from the wind; in these cases, spikes may be the answer. However, if seagulls are roosting across the entire surface, spiking the whole thing is not really feasible. Nets, cross wires, lasers, and bird spiders are better solutions in these areas. Which Seagull Spikes are the Best Choice?

There are a number of seagull control and proofing solutions that can be effective and will safeguard your property, staff, visitors and the public. Gulls are extremely aggressive scavengers. When large groups of gulls are out looking for food, they can be very intimidating and make people feel very uncomfortable. Noisy Effective seagull control may involve the use of one or a combination of control or deterrent methods including proofing building with seagull spikes or control with seagull nets. The choice of an effective gull deterrent will depend on the environment, business and population size but most crucially timing. Due to legal requirements, measures should be in place before the gull breeding season begins in March each year or after the nesting season finishes in September. And, if that isn’t enough, bird feces carry serious diseases that can be passed to humans. Gull droppings pose a serious health risk, which is why health inspectors can shut down business that shows evidence of unmanaged seagull problems. Installation – Using a suitable UV stabilised silicon adhesive or clip is critical to increasing life expectancy. Gulls are noisy during the breeding season when they have a nest or young to protect. There is no legislation that enables our teams to deal with noise and usually by the time you are subjected to the noise there is little that can be done.

If soiled with droppings, we would always recommend dampening down the area with a disinfectant spray like Germ Clear™ Bird Droppings Disinfectant Spray. Once this has been left to soak into the droppings, you can use a scraper, stiff brush, warm soapy water and a cloth to make sure the roof apex is clean and dry. Ideally leave the area for 24 hours to ensure it is fully dry. The Stainless Steel Spikes Deterrent is an effective, humane solution for preventing seagulls from landing and roosting on roof parapets, walls, ledges, girders and other narrow flat surfaces. Seagulls cannot land on the un-even surface created by the spikes and will permanently leave the protected area. Rooftops are an ideal replacement to replace their natural nesting habitat and urban areas often inadvertently provide a regular food source. Once a gull has nested they will return each year to the same area unless they are prevented access. This can be done through the use of seagull spikes. Management of any birds under the licences can only be completed where the species is causing conflict with conservation or public safety. All our Defender® Bird Spikes have snappable sections along the base and can easily be snapped using your fingers into smaller pieces. This helps when you finish a row or need to spike smaller or uneven areas. It’s almost certain that, at some point, you’ve had an unpleasant interaction with seagulls. Many gull tales include sad stories involving seagulls snatching food from plates, hands, and even mouths. These aggressive birds are one of the most prolific on the planet; they live in coastal and inland areas all around the world. For gull control to be effective, it should be planned around the gull breeding season to ensure gull problems are prevented before property damage, injury or health and safety issues occur.
