About this deal

Galen's proposal in the epilogue. It's so cute that he's so dead set on begging for Piper's hand in marriage that he doesn't realize Piper has said yes a few times already. If you’re into a crazy thing like visual media, then maybe you’d like to hear all of this on my youtube channel where I also add irrelevant flourishes: https://youtu.be/otqKhYpLgTU The Plot: Generally speaking, I enjoyed the basic outlines of the plot. A paladin of a dead god fighting to clear the name of an unjustly accused perfumer makes for a very interesting and unusual story.

A wonderfully fun story of perfumes, poisons, romance, severed heads, assassination plots, paladins of a dead god with berserker tendencies, a shy and kind perfume developer with a delightful civet and a past terrible marriage, and terrific Bishop Beartongue and lawyer Zale, both of the Church of the White Rat. Whilst foraging for startleflower, perfumer Grace finds herself pursued by ruffians and rescued by a handsome paladin in shining armour. Only, to outwit her hunters they have to pretend to be doing something very unrespectable in an alleyway. despite the fact that he had a moaning woman in his arms, Stephen had not been less aroused in recent memory.

Where Miss Angelica goes, I go,” he said, in a voice so deep Grace could almost hear it through her boots.

We get many great chances to see the paladins interacting with and supporting each other in healthy ways. There were plenty of scenes that let us have time with familiar faces, and others that got me very interested in the characters with upcoming books (gonna need that second-chance romance for Marcus, and can't wait to see who finally flusters perpetually serious Shane). As expected, there's also tons of delicious paladin guilt, served alongside a delightfully prone to blushing hero Piper. And she's peculiar. Normally, I love peculiar women, being one of the tribe myself. But her oddness is just another layer in a shit sandwich of characterization. Um... big trope of traumatized insecure humble kind people finding each other, not a plus or minus as some people love those story lines as much as other people hate them. But if you need to avoid gore, graphic sex scenes or characters reliving past and current trauma(no really, consider this a spoiler free trigger warning as some listeners looking for a fantasy romance are listening to escape the trauma of their real lives and pasts and this may only cause a lot of stress) this isn't for you, that said, if you like gore and broken souls and steamy detailed sex scenes you might love this listen.

Funny, frightening, and full of heart; I loved it' Alix E. Harrow, author of The Ten Thousand Doors of January on Nettle & Bone From the Hugo and Nebula Award winning author of Swordheart and The Twisted Ones comes a saga of murder, magic, and love on the far side of despair. Saintly Church: The White Rat are all-around good guys, providing everything from free legal representation to disaster relief. Now as for that other part of the plot, the one I kept waiting to see tied together with what afflicts Grace – WTF? I certainly hope that illumination will come to us all as to what on earth this is all about. Right now, I’m still in the dark along with, it seems, all of the characters in the book. Please – we need a part II of this story.

Obliviously Evil: Clara and Istvhan are somewhat surprised that the people who work at the Gladiator Games don't seem to consider that the fighters might not like being there, and seem to think they're all friends. (They eventually learn that the economic conditions in that area are so bad that being forced to fight for the amusement of pirate lords is actually a step up because at least there's guaranteed food and lodging, plus if you actually manage to win, the rewards are really good.)
