Description

Waldy from Waldy’s Watchrepair uses the Bergeon 6899-S09 and a set of French screwdrivers in a wooden box he bought at Beco. The screwdrivers are delivered in a wood storage box to keep them organized and protected. The box also makes it suitable for when traveling. The screwdrivers are designed with aswivel head which allows the screwdriver to move freely in your hand without having to adjust it. The screwdrivers are also colored-coded and come with replacement blades. Buying a set has the advantage of having the right screwdriver type and size to perform your repair/alteration services efficiently. The sets on stands are excellent as it keeps the working bench tidy and easy to find when needed. Ideally, a screwdriver should also have a freely-moving head (known as a swivel-head) which makes it easier to achieve greater precision when using the screwdriver is being used. Fortunately, most screwdrivers have this, but not all do, so keep that in mind. Anti-magnetic

That’s all good, but I’m not a pro. It’s much more interesting to see what professional watchmakers use because they use their screwdrivers day in and out. Bergeon Swiss Made Stainless Steel 3.00 mm Screwdriver with special knurled handle and ball bearing head. The big 18 mm diameter domed head design makes it easier to rest your palm on top and 8 mm diameter special knurled handle helps your fingers grip the body better, while the ball bearing inside the top of the head spins with ease as you unscrew tough and stubborn screws. Uses the stainless steel screwdriver blade 6899-M-300.Horotec screwdrivers are expensive, but they’re very high-quality. Rolex doesn’t provide them for their certified watchmakers for no reason. If you can afford it, go for it. It includes 9 stainless steel screwdrivers which are color-coded and feature knurled shafts for better grip. It is very similar to the set above but has some differences. One difference includes that the grip is made in full stainless steel instead of having a rubber grip. It comes delivered with a rotating stand with storage which allows for easy access and a good overview of the tools. Included are also replacement blades in each size. Furthermore, the shafts have swivel heads so you can operate the screwing with one hand. This point touches on what we discussed above, but two of the most important things you need to consider are how many screwdrivers you need, and what sizes you need. The most common screwdriver sizes are 0.5mm, 0.6mm, 0.8mm, 1.0mm, 1.2mm, and 1.4mm. But some watches require even larger screws. You can refer to our guide on which screw sizes some of the most common luxury watches have here. Depending on what you are screwing and if you are a novice, it may be a good idea to put tape on the surrounding areas of the screws to protect the watch just in case you accidentally slip. The most important part of the screwdriver is the tip, and the blades can be replaced. Basically, you’re paying for the handle, plus some marketing and branding.

stainless steel screwdrivers in the sizes 0.50, 0.60, 0.80, 1.00, 1.20, 1.40, 1.60, 2.00, and 2.50mm The Bergeon 30081 is the most popular set. Seven of the interviewed pros use this set (4 x 30081-S09 and 3 x 30081-S10). If you have at least these sizes, you’ll come very far, but it also depends on what types of screws you will screw. If it is bracelet screws, then these sizes will usually be more than enough for the vast majority of timepieces. However, if you are also going to use screwdrivers for movements and other parts, then you may need different sizes. With this said, it can be wise to invest in a kit with more screwdrivers so you don’t end up with a watch you can’t work on because you don’t have the proper screwdriver for the job. Cas-Ker is an American distributor of watchmakers screwdrivers from Bergeon, Horotec, VOH, and other high quality Swiss manufacturers.Color-coded screwdrivers make it easier to differentiate the different-sized screwdrivers from each other, making them easier to use. If you just use one or two, it won’t be that big of a deal, but if you are a watchmaker that has all the screwdrivers in front of you, color-coded screwdrivers should almost be mandatory. Replaceable tips Sizes of screwdrivers are .50 mm, .60 mm, .80 mm, 1.00 mm, 1.20 mm, 1.40 mm, 1.60 mm, 2.00 mm, 2.50 mm, and 3.00 mm. Also comes with replacement stainless steel blades for all screwdrivers.
