The much-maligned Cygor gets a buff in the Quakefray, a new Greatfray for this Battletome. Cygors become Priests, the only Priest that BoC have access to. Their prayer does mortal wounds to objective holding units and makes it harder for them to hold said objective. Finally Beasts of Chaos have their own Vanguard box that replaces the previous Start Collecting. This is a really interesting box that provides a lot of miniatures (34!!) and a solution for every question. Even Quakefray transforming a Cygor in a Priest (the only option available in this army) and anti-wizard unit, is a great alternative worth considering, especially if you like big boys like the Ghorgon, as your battleline.

Nurgle has Gifts of the Plagued One, a series of illnesses ranging from Magnificent Buboes, that wound one model, to Sumptuous Pestilence that remains in play causing D6 strength 3 hits to an enemy unit at the start of each magic phase.Quakefray, hordes of behemoths led by Cygors, who become Priests in this army. Cygor and Ghorgon become battlelines. This rule simply makes it so if your General is off the board in reserve, you still get a command point during your Hero Phase, basically as if they were on the battlefield like normal. This does not however give them any other benefits like using Heroic Actions or warscroll abilities unless otherwise stated. Rituals of Ruin

Blood Taunt is one of my favorites. A unit within 12” of the Hero must move 2D6” toward the unit but stay 3” away. Basically it’s the old Devolve spell from the Bray Shaman, but as an action that can’t fail. This is good tech to pull units off an objective or bring them close so you can gang up on them, possibly pulling them out of command or aura range. Nothing exemplifies this better than what the Sylvaneth experienced in the Witherdwell, a dark place in Ghyran, the Realm of Life, retaken by Morghur’s followers and since corrupted so that ooze and eldritch energies propagate from there infiltrating the other realms. The Knowing Eye gives Heroes some real flexibility – if you take the first turn in a battle round, you get a CP that Hero must use to give a command. If you take the second round, the Hero gets to move 6” after receiving CP. As a player who regularly finds myself leaving a spellcaster just out of range, or my Hero is too far to provide a key ability, this one really makes me think. You can bamf your wizard into range for a spell when it’s your turn, just be careful with threat ranges. For the more combat-oriented heroes, the Axe of Morghur makes it so enemies cannot take a Ward save from one of their melee weapons. I don’t see it being hugely useful. Having a shield provides them a 4+ save that can be combined with any ability (like All-out Defence) that gives +1 to save to bring them to 3+ that is pretty good for a cheap battleline. Add to this that they have a good chance (on a 3+ and only against charged units with a lower number of models) to apply the strike-last effect to their target and that they rally on a 5+ and you have a good all-round unit for its price.Heroic Leadership: on a 4+ (or 2+ if your general has been slain) get a command point only that hero can use.

They are highly durable, with a decent number of wounds and a high toughness, making them difficult to take down. Heroic Willpower: one non-Wizard hero can attempt to dispel or unbind a spell for that phase like he was a wizard. Like the previous book, we get 2 lores. One for Brayherd and one for Thunderscorn. Lore of the Twisted Wilds Bullgors also have a variety of special rules and abilities that make them even more effective in combat.

Beasts of Chaos.

Their main battle trait allows for a zero-deploy army, meaning that during set-up you can choose to deploy zero units in the battlefield and still get some benefits out of it. As a new choice here, I personally rate this unit as interesting – they’re not super expensive at 75ppm, but they’re no longer a summoning target or points filler like they used to be in Gavespawn.
