The game was published by Maximum Games and Microids in 2021. Whatever the case, that’s how the game’s progression structure is laid out. It’s constrained, it’s boring, and it’s irritating. You’ll race, you’ll earn money and items, and then use said items to upgrade your wares before heading off to race some more. I should point out that each area and sub-area of the hub is served as a single screen of options. Dialogue is text-box, and characters drawn rather than animated. The aim of play is to grow a stable of champions, champions that will serve you throughout the game’s distinct locations.So, it is an uphill task to get Windstorm to trust you in the first place, let alone open up to be in a vulnerable enough state for you to help reduce the crippling anxiety. That said, Windstorm does look nice, and the details in Ari’s Arrival are clearly much improved in comparison to the first game.

You’ll start off with horses that are good for nothing, and will need to spend time racing with them to improve their unique levels. Horses come with a rank and a level. The higher the rank typically determines how many levels they’re afforded before being capped. You’re free to buy horses from the stables, and indeed breed horses. When it comes to breeding, you’ll select a stud and a mare, pay a lump sum for them to bump, and come away from it with a brand new horse; stats of course being determined by the horse’s heritage. The Windstorm series saw a first installment released in 2018 and Windstorm: Ari’s Arrival is the second game in the series. This one was developed and published by Eurovideo Medien in 2019. The art direction is reminiscent of a toy approach with vibrant and cheerful colors that are probably more suited to a game set on the beach, but it does a job. The more you ride the horse, the stronger your bond gets. Building a stronger bond will improve your horse’s reactions to commands and is especially useful when you’re taking on new horses tamed from the wild or bought from the stable. While the game’s graphics leave much to be desired, its fun features can make it addictive. You can build and manage your own stables, breed horses and train them to become champions.

There are other small oversights here and there that make this game feel unfinished at times, but you’ll have more joy if you ignore the story and play at your own pace. If your thirst for a horse game can only be quenched with horse racing, this is arguably the best option for you in the PlayStation Store. It’s not the most versatile or unique title out there, but it does exactly what is advertised, and it does it well. To be honest, the gameplay mechanics of My Little Riding Champion are not the best. The movement of the horses and your actions (especially when cleaning a horse) are not the most realistic for a supposed horse-riding simulator. The racing controls are simpler than most games I have played, which I initially thought would make the racing easy and boring. But I actually think the racing works well. If your horse isn’t the best in the field, you have to ride the race perfectly to stand a chance of placing. And sometimes even if you are the best horse in the field, a small mistake can mean you don’t win. So I think it works well. Extra Features If you have a young child, niece, nephew, cousin, or whatever, this can be one of the best horse games on PS5 for them. What Next?
