Description

There is no hard and fast rule for how long you should use a peri bottle but most women find they only need to use one for about a week. Continue using your peri bottle for as long as you feel it is helping you during the postpartum period. If you spent time in labour before you had your caesarean section, your perineum may still feel sore and swollen in those first few days after your baby was born. You will also experience the same heavy postpartum bleeding as those who had a vaginal birth so you may want to use a peri bottle to keep the area clean, especially if bending down is painful. Make sure the water you use is warm but not hot as you don’t want to risk burning your already sensitive skin. As well as feeling soothing, some mums feel using a peri bottle leaves them cleaner than simply using toilet paper would. How long do I need to use a peri bottle for?

Simply add warm water to your peri bottle and you're good to go. You can also follow it up with the Healing Foam, which contains witch hazel. The witch hazel assists the healing process, reduces swelling and offers much-needed relief to the perineal area. The word 'peri' is short for perineum, the area between your vagina and anus. This part of your body will be most affected during childbirth and will likely be very sore and swollen for a couple of weeks, even if you don't have stitches. Childbirth is usually divided into three different stages: the labor stage (divided into latent, active labor, and transition), the delivery of the infant, and the passage of the placenta. During the second phase, while the baby crowns, your perineum may tear. Squeeze the bottle and spray the water over the area to clean away urine and reduce the stinging feeling that is associated with urination after birth

As you start to push, your baby will move into your vagina and begin to “crown” — exiting your body head first (hopefully!) into the world. Although babies are small, your perineal area will still need to stretch significantly to allow your baby’s body to pass through. This is what the perineum is made to do. I remember having my first child and wondering, “What is that for? ” I am a doctor with three kids of my own.'”“Not one nurse showed me how to use it because they assumed I knew what it was,” claims Dr. Dothager.” Consult your postpartum nurse if you have any questions. Aloe vera and Epsom salts are also often used alongside peri bottles but we recommend chatting to your doctor before adding anything other than water to your peri bottle, just to be safe. Can you use a peri bottle if you've had a C-section? Fill the peri bottle with warm water. You may also use cool water for soothing if that feels better for you. Most new mums will tell you that giving birth isn’t exactly a comfortable experience and when it comes to going to the toilet afterwards, just the thought of it can be a little terrifying. That's why so many people swear by peri bottles after welcoming a baby into the world — because after experiencing the joyous (and painful) event that is childbirth, you may need a little extra help down there.
