About this deal

Anyway, the two of them hatch a plan to save Wendy. Blah blah some stuff happens and Millie shoots Douglas and he’s dead. For those among them who have not yet read the maid (what are you waiting for?), Don’t worry. The Housemaid’s Secret can be read as independent, there is nothing in this book that spoils the first, but I would not recommend it, it is too good to get lost. The blurb doesn’t do justice to the book and totally misrepresents it. It also contains minor spoilers. Thankfully, I read the blurb only after completing the book.

I do have to mention, however, that I didn’t quite enjoy this one as much as The Housemaid. Maybe because I didn’t know what to expect with the gaslighting and abuse (avoid both in this series if you’ve been the subject of either), but to a certain extent this sequel felt like a switched up retelling of the last book. Well, at the very least, the beginning did… The only other bit that bothered me was how far-fetched it felt. But if you’re willing to throw out your suspension of disbelief, it’s still quite the chilling (and thrilling) tale. My thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the DRC of “The Housemaid's Secret”. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book. There was a scene (without going into specifics) that was so wildly reminiscent of Kevin Smith’s movie ‘Holidays’ (the Halloween portion). It just didn’t seem very original when I felt it had major potential to be.

The ending was beyond satisfying and just something I didn’t expect at all! LoL saying it was a drop-the-mic moment is an understatement. This was a wild, insane, fun, adrenaline-filled Nina has no agency at all, she's only good to be rescued by her super-hot, muscled, Italian stud, and even Millie shows no initiative at all up until the very ending.

And what about the "translating apps" that Millie mentions in the very beginning of the book, hoping that they'll help her communicate with Enzo, except then she never uses them, never mentions them again and spends the rest of the novel complaining that she has no way of communicating with Enzo? All in all, this was my first book by this author but I don’t think it will be my last. Despite the minor shortcomings, this book kept me largely satisfied. Since I am not an avid contemporary thriller reader, I cannot tell you if the plot is similar to any of the other recent domestic thrillers in the market. But I know that I was quite happy with it. Definitely recommended if you are looking for an entertaining commercial thriller. In this new story, Millie, our local maid, moved from her previous life and her situation and now lives in New York City, where she has a new friend and a new job. When they freely release her work as a nanny, she will soon look for a new job. All this happens while her boyfriend wants to move together. But Millie hides a secret. A great secret. And she is not sure how to share these possible relationships with the end of the messages. Reading home was one of the best moments I had last year. It was a book that I had never heard about and I was completely surprised in many ways. When I ended the book, I was honestly very sad. When I saw that The Housemaid’s Secret came out this year, he moved me. I wasn’t sure how the story would be written, but I just hoped she had the same mood as the first book. I’m glad to say yes! Then the creepy neighbor comes around her apartment and she must protect herself. If only Enzo were here. Then she senses someone is following her.In Part One, Nina Winchester is looking for a maid to clean, help out with her daughter Cecilia, and perhaps prepare a meal on occasion. The person she hires will need to be desperate for a job, and have CERTAIN personality traits. The conclusion I reached is as follows: Freida McFadden is a masterful narrator. She has this rare talent to find unpredictably impressive actions. His novels apply to complicated details. When revelations are made (and there are many), it’s like Facepalm: “I didn’t see that at all.” She is the reigning queen of the conspiracy. And she always offers a stay that did not read everything, breathless. Despite dealing with a serious subject, The Housemaid's Secret is captivating and intriguing. An engaging read with well-developed characters, it is highly recommended. An exciting and twisty series of events will keep you hooked until the very end. All but TWO of my friends loved it, so I had to squeeze it in!! Unfortunately, I am in the same camp as the two who were NOT thrilled with it! 🤣
