Now, F1 journalist Mark Hughes has released another biography of the triple world champion, “ Unstoppable“.

This was not because he didn’t want to be there, but because it was a busy time of year for a full-time F1 driver that would include the longest trip of the season to Japan. However as a native Dutch speaker i can see the translations of the dutch sources ( for example quotes of his mum ) are being done by a bot or google translate or so.

I expected to have a lot of f1 content inside of it but actually it starts when he is born and it ends in 2020 at the end of the 2020 season. Verstappen may only be 25 years of age, but the Dutch motorsport sensation has an incredible record in F1 and has already left an indelible mark on the sport. Additionally, while advertised as a book about Max, it primarily focused on his father and general F1 until the final chapter or two when it broke down Max’s personal story more. His f1 career is mostly described through recaps of every grand prix (information you can have already by watching them back or drive to survive). Fortunately for him, the case took two years to go through the courts and the controversy did not stop Stewart giving him a drive just a month after the widely reported fracas, replacing the poor-performing Jan Magnussen (whose son Kevin would go on to race against Max in F1).

The author goes off into long tangents about other stories (Damon Hill and Jaques Villeneuve’s careers for one) just to highlight a minor point in Verstappens career. He had a few moments earlier voiced his frustrations at the ‘typical’ decision not to let the cars unlap themselves and give him a shot at Hamilton. Well written and great insight into his relationship with his father, his young career and how he became his own man and driver. After another five minutes on track he had matched Aguri Suzuki, the man usually behind the wheel of the car he had been given. Jos insists that he understood but the frustration of feeling abandoned in his first ever season in F1, with less than three years of racing experience behind him, is clear. This detailed biography with high-quality photographs is the perfect gift for any fan of the rising F1 star Max Verstappen.

He had a reputation as a driver of being someone not to be crossed but once he had retired, he found himself outside the F1 paddock where the deadly nature of the sport seemed to legitimise the odd outburst or confrontation; he was in the ‘real world’, where his actions had real consequences. The photo selections aren’t particularly unique and are mostly in-person photos rather than racing action shots.People talk about his aggressiveness, and the book does point moments of awareness when he’s pushed it too far, but not many nice guys became F1 legends (Kimi being of the best amongst them). With a due date at the beginning of October, it was likely that his mother Sophie Kumpen would have to rely on friends and family for support in the days after giving birth to her first child, rather than husband Jos.
