The story is nonsensical, and like her other work ‘The Worst Princess’ it (perhaps more subtly) suggests that you don’t have to be what you are ‘supposed’ to be. The main character of this book is Biff the dog who loves ballet but spends his life being told that he is unable to do ballet because he's a do.
