Description

I would highly recommend this book for those that are getting started in traditional bushcraft skills or looking to simplify their kit for short adventures and stays in the woods. It based on Canterbury's Five C's of Survivability - Cutting Tools, Covering Elements, Combustion devices, containers and cordage. The author not only explains the hows of the skills, tools, materials, and methods he presents, but the whys as well.

I found myself using this text to "bookmark" certain ideas that I hope to further explore with other resources. This may have been a liability issue more than anything, since identifying edible plants is hard and making mistakes can be fatal, but I don't know what to tell you, trapping a raccoon doesn't sound super safe either.

Because, in my opinion, it's a good, basic, bushcraft/wilderness survival book written by an author with the credentials, experience, knowledge, and the chops for relevant information and content. g., 5 Tool Rule) that everything he carries not only performs one primary thing exceptionally well, but can perform other functions and tasks. While many of the books Dave Canterbury has written are more American-centric, the majority of the skills and lessons contained are transferable to our fair isles and can be a great companion to your outdoor adventures. The author attempts to cast a wide net and cover many topics, but he primarily focuses on the roughly 15% - 20% of bushcraft information he felt held the most value for beginners. Bushcraft 101 is a great book from the well known Survivalist and self reliance expert Dave Canterbury.

A mile wide and an inch deep the book covers all the areas you would need without going in depth enough, for this reader at least, to be confident he would be able to reproduce the desired results. That being said, this book is like a compressed zip file where each topic is expanded upon by the author's other specialized and advanced bushcraft books that go into further detail.

Find reviews of books for men at Books for Dudes, Books for Dudes, the online reader's advisory column for men from Library Journal. The tools and gear Canterbury uses and recommends aren't cheap, but most of these tools only need to be purchased once in a lifetime. With that being said, there were some sections that were a bit too much for me to follow -- primarily the knots and lashings etc. The whole book is packed full of tips and tricks that are clearly born out of a lot of real-world experience. This valuable guide offers only the most important survival skills to help you craft resources from your surroundings and truly experience the beauty and thrill of the wilderness.I've been trying to learn how people lived along (not fought) with nature mostly from TV and youtube, latter being the more difficult media to sort out what is "instructive" and what is "destructive". This book also goes over how to use your surroundings to your advantage and basic knowledge of your surroundings like Types of trees and plants, species of animals, and types of terrains in the environment you're in. Based on the 5Cs of Survivability, cutting tools, covering, combustion devices, containers, and cordages. Unless you're planning to get very lost on purpose, I don't think most people picking up a 101 guide are in the headspace to go for raccoon stew. A castor mound set for trapping beaver is perhaps a bit outside of the scope of what this book needed to be.

With Canterbury's guidance, you will not only prepare yourself for any climate and situation, you will also learn how to use the art of bushcraft to reconnect with nature in ways you have never imagined. g., making a rock broiler, recipes for cowboy coffee) to complicated projects that take forever (I would love to meet anyone who has ever caught any edible thing in a suspended deadfall trap).I had picked a handful of tutors from various countries who had been mostly concentrated on different areas of backcountry life. In einem großzügigen Kapitel wird das Jagen mit diversen Fallen und das Verarbeiten von erlegten Tieren beschrieben. I also recommend When Technology Fails by Matthew Stein and Tom Brown's Guide to Wilderness Survival by Tom Brown, Jr. Bei der Beschreibung von Ausrüstung gibt es sehr schöne Beschreibungen von unterschiedlichen Produktmarken und was auf dem Markt gut wäre.
