The comedy is handled really well, and plot twists are clever but gentle: just the way cosy crime should be. Having been relaxing with headphones and eye-masks the murder was only discovered when the apparent murderer starts screaming. Ebooks fulfilled through Glose cannot be printed, downloaded as PDF, or read in other digital readers (like Kindle or Nook). He still wears his trademark dark woollen suit every day – because that is what Detective Inspectors wear.

When the publishers Harlequin asked me if I'd like a copy of A Meditation On Murder I nearly bit their hands off, I have watched the television series, Death In Paradise, from the beginning ,seduced by the echoes of Agatha Christie's construction of a mystery coupled with the beautiful setting on the Caribbean island of Saint Marie. There is a big difference between writing a screenplay and writing a novel, and this book is case in point. I think my only main criticism of the book was that it was a bit long, so at times my attention would temporarily flag. And in true fashion, I read it in the voices and mannerisms of each of the other Monore Police officers. Nevertheless, the puzzle kept me guessing until the end, with only my third option being the right one (not sure it counts when it takes that many attempts!I also assumed that it might take place on one of the Caribbean islands (because- Death in Paradise). Information is often repeated in dialogue, in a way that would probably make sense spoken aloud, but looks like unnecessary padding when written down. Aslan Kennedy has an idyllic life: Leader of a Spiritual Retreat for wealthy holidaymakers on one of the Caribbean’s most unspoilt islands, Saint Marie.

Fans of the show who are missing DI Richard Poole have another chance to spend some quality time with him thanks to “A Meditation on Murder”. The book recaps the evidence in the form of Richard Poole's evidence board so the reader can make sure they haven't missed any points along the way. Really clever writing in that we're almost part of DI Poole's brain as it whirls round processing every minute part of the investigation. This is an absolute must read for anyone who loves the TV series, “Death in Paradise”, but it’s also easy enough to pick up even if you have never come across the show. Camille, Dwanye, and Fidel) Another thing that I liked about this story was that we heard a lot more from Richard's POV.In fact, he’s convinced that the person who’s just confessed to the murder is the one person who couldn’t have done it. This wasn’t because he trained himself to turn delicately to each day’s sunrise like a flower; it was because he was hot, bothered, and he he’d been awake since a frog had started croaking outside his window – inexplicably – just before 4am.

Unfortunately that means it's just an episode of Death in Paradise dragged out to 350 pages which leads to a lot of tedious summing up of the case and repeated word-for-word reproductions of everything written on the white board, adding nothing to the story other than bulk. The story itself is a traditional “locked room” whodunit and when local hotelier Aslan Kennedy is found murdered inside a locked room it seems an open and shut case – only five other people were in that room and one has confessed, after all. I have already picked up on some of the comic elements of the mystery but I like how each book I have read in the series so far has had some kind of humorous subplot. Aslan is the co-owner of a luxury Retreat hotel in a small island in Caribbean, managing it with his wife. We’ve got a dead body over there that’s covered in knife wounds, so let’s concentrate on a tiny piece of metal we’ve found on the floor over here.
