Description

The writing was absolutely amazing, i felt like i was literally in Greece while reading about the descriptions of the locations in this book.

I have a feeling things may pick up, based on the synopsis, but I’m not going to carve out listening time for this one as it is right now.

It’s easy to understand why someone would want to live there or why her dad would want to go back, but it took a while to get there.

There’s a lot of pain, regret, and more serious issues that weave themselves through the story, so Theo provided some comedic relief and a lighter side to contrast with the darker one. He said it was the first thing he bought when he arrived in the Chicago airport from Greece, and the second he popped it into his mouth, he knew he’d made the right decision: any country that made gum like this knew what it was doing. She’s sharp and I felt like she tried really hard to walk that balance between interfering when necessary and letting Liv make her own life choices. Due to a misunderstanding and an open door, Cirrus thinks that Sunny’s brother’s room (the same brother who hasn’t been in contact for quite a while) is in fact Sunny’s, he feels compelled to keep up a lie so Cirrus likes him. Olive has a boyfriend back home for the majority of the time she’s in Santorini having a flirtation-ship with Theo, the son of her dad’s friend. My boyfriend, Dax, slowed his jaunty pace and sighed loudly, not because he needed the extra oxygen, but because this was our third break in less than fifteen minutes. I felt like she was flinching away from her dad, flirting but not flirting with the love interest and thinking she knew everything throughout the whole book until the end. It’s such a compelling mystery, and I really enjoyed learning about it as Liv, her dad, and Theo went sightseeing and interviewing people about it as they filmed. Things get off to a bit of a rocky start when a strange boy shows up in her Dad's place to pick her up from the airport. books are cool because i have precisely 0 whirlwind european vacations in my future, but this let me pretend. There isn't really something I can pinpoint, but there was a little something missing that made it feel like trudging through at certain points. Because as Liv slowly begins to discover, her father may not have invited her to Greece for Atlantis, but for something much more important.

Thankfully, the strong storylines of adventure and learning to understand those who have hurt you in the past made up for this. She’s got a great sense of style, she’s a talented artist, and she is surprisingly chill about solo international travel at such a young age. Liv is struggling with her boyfriend, Dax, who is home for the summer and just a little controlling about her future. She knows she won't be happy following him around for much longer, but lacks the inner strength and confidence to be honest about her feelings.

He’d even turned off his phone so we wouldn’t spend half the night being bombarded by texts from his legions of friends. Side note: maybe it's the Mamma Mia lover in me but the whole time I was just like "yes, run away to Greece.

I kept saying it was too painful to revisit, but, without my knowing, he showed my book to his publisher, who saw potential in it and made an offer. He says my style was the first thing he noticed, which, to be honest, is the first thing everyone notices and is entirely by design. Author Jenna Evans Welch's talent for vivid descriptions of gorgeous locations steals the show in this otherwise sweet but predictable, and a bit too long, coming-of-age romance. I had some issues with connecting to the story and the main character which I think is why it felt too long for me. A minor character smokes a cigar, and Liv has a sentifmental attachment to the smell of a certain brand of cigarettes.
