Testing the two balls side by side, we found the newer model was a few yards longer, thanks to a lower spin rate (around 300rpm less than the original). They are extremely cost-effective whilst offering premium performance as they have been compared to top brands like Titleist and TaylorMade. The way you can tell this is version 3 is where it says “Performance” in small type surrounded by double arrows on both sides.

As with the long game, the new model’s spin levels have dropped in this area, too, losing almost 500rpm from 100 yards and up to 2,000rpm from 50 yards. However, while it spun less than its predecessor, the Kirkland Signature 3-piece golf ball still produced far more spin than urethane-covered competitor balls from Titleist, TaylorMade, Srixon and Wilson. The Kirkland’s speed-boosting mantle is optimised with three-piece construction to control spin with long irons. The K-Sig ball fits within the whole Costco golf strategy – it’s for the ultra-casual golfer who either is getting into the game, doesn’t want to spend much, or just have something to hit the course with. From 100-yards the new model spun around 500 rpm less and from 50 yards, the spin fell away by almost 2000 rpm.

Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like). I would give the K-Sig Performance Plus a satisfactory rating around the green in both feel and performance, but it doesn’t blow me away. From my experience with the earlier V2, was that it is a really good all-around ball, but lacked some distance compared to the big name brand balls that are similar. For those currently playing the Pro V1 and thinking of making a switch to save money, I would try a different approach. Kirkland Signature Golf Balls v2 with three-Piece Urethane Cover, a high-performance ball suitable for recreational and competitive play. But I did take a few notes, and even got on the simulator to see if the numbers confirmed what I was feeling out on the course. Throughout the rest of the round, I noticed that the Kirkland Signature golf balls respond well when conditions are ideal for high spin and they really work well with full wedge shots. Taking these to the golf course has taught me a few things about this popular golf ball that you should know before you purchase. The Kirkland Signature Three-Piece Urethane Cover Golf Ball Performance+ includes two twelve count boxes--twenty four balls in total. The Kirkland Signature Three-Piece Urethane Cover Golf Ball Performance Plus comes in two 12-count boxes; 24 balls in total.

I did notice when playing on the course that the total distance of the Kirkland ball was a few yards less on most of my iron shots as well. It isn’t a massive deal, but in windy conditions, you’d definitely be losing yards on the other balls off the tee. When he's not doing the whole golf thing, Bill is a simple tech manager living in the Chicago suburbs with his wife and two kids.Really intrigued to see how our tester does with these and how well the “fit by speed” concept works with him. on a SkyTrak launch monitor against the original version of the ball as well as some other urethane covered offerings from different brands. However, a 15 Delta difference in compression is huge to me, given that I have a moderate swing speed. I certainly didn’t feel like there was too much backspin, but a couple of draws that turned into hooks (my tendency with short irons) did seem to turn even more with Kirkland ball. It’s more that experience has told me that people will come to the comments and freak out about any opinions I post about Costco golf equipment…be it glowing, critical, or neutral.

Before I even start this review, I’m almost dreading writing it because of how seemingly polarizing the topic of the Costco golf ball seems to be.around the green; every pitch and chip without even trying would one hop and stop, even on poor contact, and they’re probably the only ball I’ve ever played where I could consistently get them to actually spin back several feet on shots 100 yards and in. What I experienced on the course where I play most often is that my tee shots, when struck solidly, were winding up in the same places they do with the other balls I play.
