The Ultra-Lite2 poncho weighs 9 ounces and is constructed from ultralight breathable and waterproof nonwoven polypropylene with welded waterproof seams. have you decided against an Altus because of someone's bad reviews, or because of not being able to get one easily? Can somebody tell me how many grommets there are and if the material seems strong enough to handle a setup for a vestibule using hiking poles, a couple of stakes, paracord for a roofline, and a couple of short bungees? I have 2 Altus ponchos, one of the very long with arms and zip and one shorter and lighter also with arms and zip. It wasn’t until the wind suddenly stopped that I knew I was about to be rained on, so I dropped my pack and put on the Frogg Toggs Ultra-Lite2 Jacket.

Thank you to whoever suggested taking photos while unpacking the boxes - it wasn’t easy to Tetris everything back in. I would bring large overfitting rain pants with that when travelling in the shoulder season months (March, April, August, September, November) because the rain and wind can be quite strong making it colder. The drawcords in the hood worked well to lock out the wet weather, as did the elastic-embedded wrist cuffs. I have a general concern (although I am unsure) if a rain jacket or poncho is considered to be "heavy duty" and/or expensive that it would also weigh more, make you sweat more, and possibly be overkill, especially on a summer Camino.I was a little apprehensive about renting a sleeping bag (could be gross inside; you never know) but it was clean and had a distinctly neutral and inoffensive smell, which was far better than my own body's condition after the end of a whole day's hike. I have plenty of Gore-Tex® outdoor gear, but it tends to make me overheat when I’m performing any physical exercise other than walking. The cooking stove didn’t come with step by step instructions, so you may want to check that out before you end up in Yellowstone without cell service.

It keeps air flowing around your body, unlike a coat or sweater, so you can be warm while not getting sweaty. Backpacking Light community posts are moderated and here to foster helpful and positive discussions about lightweight backpacking. The packs, sleeping bags and pads my group rented was in good condition, with no notable signs of wear or damage. yup, over 30 days each time, zero rain from SJPdP to SDC) you can ditch the Frogg Toggs and leave them on a trusty donativo table. Both work well in the rain and this setup also helps my wife stay warm on early morning winter hikes as it tends to keep the heat in.I love the Altus because of the ziplock and the arms, easy to put on without help, when it stop raining for a while unlock the zip, take out your arms and tie them around your waist still covering your backpack. Brett and Chelsea went above and beyond helping my school group extract important GPS data from the rental unit. The Polimidad ripstop appears to be just a ripstop fabric made with a branded type of nylon (Polyester? Traditional ponchos are meant to slip over your head to wear as they do not have any front zippers or buttons.

I assume that they are all waterproof, but would the type of material make a difference in how clammy or sweaty you get when wearing it for a long time? When the precipitation lightened I loosened the cord and unzipped the jacket’s only zipper to see that my puffy jacket was dry.My Altus is from 2015 and is beginning to show its age - like the snaps that secure the pack section when not in use breaking off. ponchos vs rain coats, and everyone seems to have a personal preference, from expensive brand names like Altus, to the cheapest plastic poncho on the market. The full-length zipper is surprisingly hearty and loosely covered by a thin storm flap for added protection. Take a look at other EDC/PREPARED reviews such as the Lifeline 30-Piece First Aid Kit and the Gerber Shard everyday carry (EDC) pocket tool. I like the Altus but have had problems with condensation on the inside depending on the day's temperature and time of year I've walked.

I wear a men’s medium most of the time, but a Frogg Toggs size small hangs loose on me with enough room for a large puffy jacket to fit underneath. I can tell you about the ultralight bi-laminate polypropylene fabric that is welded at the seams to prevent leaks and tears. I then purchased my own 2pc set and used them for my two Caminos (Frances and Del Norte/Primitivo) the last two years. The Frogg Toggs Ultra-Lite2 Jacket will protect you from the elements because that’s all it was made to do, and it’s going to do its darnedest.I make sure my pack has a cover and all my pack contents are in drysacks so I've never had a problem with gear getting wet.
