Description

The unforgettable, heartbreaking story of the unlikely friendship between a wealthy boy and the son of his father’s servant, The Kite Runner is a beautifully crafted novel set in a country that is in the process of being destroyed. I continue to be super curious about how digital and tech are enabling people to transform our lives but I try to read a good mix of books that apply to a variety of areas and stretch my thinking more broadly. There’s also Alison Bechdel’s superb graphic novel Fun Home with its far from faultless recently deceased father. Bechdel explores intimate details about her own coming-of-age: her father’s interior life, his closeted sexuality and his death, told with humour and literary reference, including a running theme of famously ill-fated father-son pair Daedalus and Icarus. It’s easy for the bad times (and there will be bad times) to eclipse the wonder that is raising another human.

Dad Is Fat is a hilarious book for dads, stand-up comedian Jim Gaffigan brings a dose to humor to fatherhood. As parents we all want the best for our children, but so often we give in to societal pressures which can result in us overmanaging every aspect of their lives leaving them overwhelmed, over-scheduled and lacking motivation. OWN AFFILIATION: I am an editor/contributor to this book or another book in the Series (where applicable) and/or on the Editorial Board of the Series, of which this volume is part. Kenneth Washington shares his experiences, knowledge, and understanding of being raised by this warrior, trainer, father, mentor, man of God, friend, awesome person, and legend. Beautifully woven from personal narrative, reimagined history, and fresh, emotionally charged reportage, Between the World and Me clearly illuminates the past, bracingly confronts our present, and offers a transcendent vision for a way forward.

In her trademark gentle, supportive and reassuring style, best-selling author Sarah Ockwell-Smith shows that while we all lose it at times, everyone can become a calmer parent. So becoming a good father is about knowing yourself, and leveraging all that’s good in you towards raising someone who knows better than you. In "How to Become the Best Dad," Ken Sibley offers a compassionate, insightful, and practical guide for fathers striving to excel in their role.In his 1989 memoir, Wolff remembers growing up with two terrible stepfathers while constantly getting into trouble. The book convincingly shows that fatherhood is closely related to family life, kinship concerns, marriage, parenthood, partnership, gender identity, sexuality and class. Each section has many information you can relate to each other and at the same time make it easier to look for something in specific if you need an advice.

In an ideal world, all parents may be equipped with the skills they need to parent effectively and lovingly from their own homes. Compassionate, dramatic, and deeply moving, To Kill A Mockingbird takes readers to the roots of human behavior - to innocence and experience, kindness and cruelty, love and hatred, humor and pathos.

When he seemingly disappeared in middle age after publishing July, July in 2002, it seemed like we’d lost one of America’s great voices. One of my favorite sections comes early in the book, when Magary is out trick-or-treating with his three children, and one of the neighborhood dads with a stash of beers in a wagon goes in a different direction. Inhorn is also the founding editor of the Journal of Middle East Women’s Studies and co-editor of Berghahn’s “Fertility, Reproduction, and Sexuality” series. Caleb Klaces is the author of Bottled Air (2013), which won the Melita Hume Prize and an Eric Gregory Award, and two chapbooks, All Safe All Well (2011) and Modern Version (2018).
