We asked a few of them to share their secrets on how to easily create a great Broadway-inspired look for Halloween. To highlight the evolution of the character, the costume designer Albert Wolsky wanted to create a striking chromatic contrast: while Sandy is dressed in pastel throughout the film, adopting the style of her boyfriend, she stands out from the rest of the crowd. Olivia Newton-John recently confided in the difficulties encountered during the filming of this scene, which lasted a week: “When I tried on those pants for the first time, the zipper was broken and Albert didn't want to rip them trying to put in a new one or remove the old one.

Sandy's high ponytail is adorned with a red bow, whereas other cheerleaders opt for low ponytails and white ribbons.

Complete with perfectly flipped hair, styled neatly into a half ponytail, the coordinated moment speaks to Sandy's modest, polished style. I used a wet brush and then my finger to pack on glitter Memory on my lid focusing on the inner half. No way I was wiping off all the glitter and black shadow so when I do the look again at Halloween I will film it because it’s a look that isn’t just for Halloween.

Few cinematic moments can beat the final scene of Grease, when Sandy (played by Newton-John) ditches her good girl pastel outfits and wins back Danny Zuko (John Travolta) wearing something completely different – a rock ‘n’ roll all-black ensemble with skintight trousers, a sexy Bardot top, leather jacket and bright red heels. In Newton-John's memoir, " Don't Stop Believin'," she mentions the most iconic fashion moment of them all: her all-black look with red accents for the movie's final scene. These are 4-inch heels and I normally don’t go over 2 1/2 or 3 inches so the fear of breaking my neck was real. The pants were vintage when she wore them for the 1978 movie, dating back to the Fifties – and they weren’t the easiest thing for Newton-John to dance in. There would have been a video of the makeup look, but I forgot to hit record and didn’t realize it until I had finished. We’ve seen thousands of Dannys and Sandys since Travolta and Newton-John laid the blueprint in 1978, from countless high school productions to a fully mounted professional production on NBC starring Aaron Tveit and Julianne Hough. Among the items up for auction, the actress that played the iconic Sandy character parted with the jacket and pants of the legendary finale scene.

The tight-fitting pants, which became synonymous with the character of Sandy, were already vintage (and not in the best of states) when Olivia wore them in Grease.

She finishes her look with white low-top sneakers and socks, plus a pair of red sunglasses affixed to a chain. This deluxe version of our Sandy costume brings you the look from the movie and comes with everything you need to transform into your favorite movie heroine.

I went for a bodysuit instead of just a top so I didn’t have to worry about it bunching and tucking it in. The ultimate 'bad' Sandy wig, inspired by Olivia Newton John's revamped hairstyle in the final scenes of 'Grease'.

Sandy sings "Hopelessly Devoted to You" in her white nightgown at a sleepover with the rest of the Pink Ladies. Etsy’s 100% renewable electricity commitment includes the electricity used by the data centres that host Etsy.
