Verdict– For us, the Crossfire sits somewhere between the Aqualite and the Armo. It’s perhaps more sturdy than the Aqualite, but not as nimble or as fast to set up, yet on the other hand, it’s not as cumbersome as the Armo. As such, it’s ideal for the overnight or short stay angler who wants that extra protection but without all the extra weight! Two telescopic poles serve structural purposes as well, acting firstly as a rear pole that slots into place at either peak or base. The best brolly system will have several important features. First of all (and it should be obvious) you want your brolly to be waterproof. Features such as taped seams and drainage systems ensure that it stays watertight. The best weather for carp fishing, however, may also be conducive to using a brolly system as a mixture of rain, and at times, high temperatures will certainly need you under some cover at points during your session. The Daiwa Mission provides extended storm sides to help protect against heavy winds and horizontal rain. You also benefit from groundsheet protection which is handy if you want a dry surface available to you before you stow your gear.

In a market flooded with cheap bivvies, the Nash H-Gun Strongbow is a serious contender. OK, it’s never going to trouble its established big brothers like the Titan, but for those just getting into the sport or for those on a tight budget, the Strongbow is the perfect choice. Structured like a traditional fishing umbrella, the sides are useful. This helps if you’re fishing in windy conditions, or you need extra protection from the sun. Rigidity is much improved, too. Rather than having thin ribs, most brolly shelters or domes utilise hollow frame bars, which are opened out and slotted together to give excellent stability. Some even offer additional tensioning poles which fit between the bars to increase stability even more, and thus you could fish into harsher conditions in relative comfort each year with greater ease than you could with an oval brolly. So let's start by looking at the key features to look out for in the best fishing day shelter. Features to look for in the best fishing day shelter

Key Features

What makes this shelter stand out from the competition is the option to add a full mozzy infill panel and/or a brolly extension at a later date if required. The Easy Shelter Plus is an upgrade to the classic and, as such, is definitely a contender for the best fishing day shelter award.

The Korum Day Shelter Lite is smaller and lighter than previous versions, weighing in at just 3.8kg. Some anglers may prefer to keep this fitted, which is useful if setting up your umbrella over wet ground. This proved to be easy using the telescopic alloy storm rods. It took me around 5 minutes. When extended fully, this bar offers increased rigidity throughout the shelter's interior space by providing extra tension all around its perimeter. As a general rule of thumb, the higher the ‘mm’ rating, the more waterproof the brolly. It’s also worth mentioning that you don’t want to be sitting or putting your gear on wet ground. A groundsheet keeps everything under the brolly nice, dry and protects against rising damp.

That said, there are a number of extras you can get for a brolly system including side bars, front bars and over wraps, all of which will aid stability and allow it to be used in harsher conditions. I’m a big fan of the old style oval brollies, and have used them myself extensively over the years. They are versatile, lightweight, and can be set up or broken down in a minute. Transportation is also extremely easy as they will slip straight into a rod bag or quiver. The Shelter is supplied in a spacious bag and comes with two lightweight aluminium tension rods for added support. The Daiwa Mission Overnighter's canopy is made from extra durable "pu" coated nylon and also features strong taped seams. Two strong storm rods are also supplied for fitting to the front of the canopy as shown in the above image. Some anglers look for price and value as the main factor when looking for the best fishing day shelter. If this is you then look no further than this great offering from a brand called Kingcarp.
