Description

We sampled out first Painkiller when there was a Pusser’s in Cruz Bay on St. John many years ago… It has become one of our favorites and is available nearly everywhere in the Caribbean now – especially anywhere in the Virgin Islands. And it has a pretty tasty cousin too – The Nilla Killa! In our version of the fruity rum drink, tropical-flavored rum and coconut rum are mixed with grenadine syrup, cranberry, and orange juices. Something fun to try (I haven’t tried it yet) would be to try coconut rum in place of the regular rum. You could also float the maraschino cherries in a big bowl of the bunch (virgin or no) to serve at a bigger party. It would be fun to try different flavors of rum in here- a spiced rum might even be a fun treat! Serving Suggestions So I really love to dance Zumba and SocaFit, and many of my classmates and teachers are from the Caribbean islands.

If you have the time and the right equipment (ie my favorite juice machine) it is definitely a cheaper way to go since you can just buy the fruit. We’ve put together a list of 10 Best Tropical Rum Drinks – those that we remember fondly from our past vacations in the sun. What tropical rum drinks would make your list? Every party we have, someone brings their version of rum punch. And there are thousands of versions. When I decided to make my own version, wanted a traditional rum punch with simple ingredients so I could make it in a glass or a pitcher easily. Also- I wanted to know more about the history of rum punch.Spicy Bahama Mama: 2 parts Spiced Rum, 1 part Coconut Rum, 2 parts pineapple juice, 1 part orange juice, and a dash of hot sauce. Garnish with a pineapple leaf and a slice of jalapeño.

The origins of the Bahama Mama are sketchy, but it’s likely to have been invented in the 1960s by Oswald “Slade” Greenslade, a Bahamian bartender working in the Nassau Beach Hotel. Bitters– orange bitters are called for in this recipe, but if you can’t find them, angostura bitters work just as well. For a luau party and this tropical punch, you’ll want to mix various fruit juices with your rum. If you have rum left over and want to serve it alone, here are some other ideas besides juice:You could do some cranberry juice in place of the grenadine to give a little bit more of a tart flavor. Some people add angostura bitters for a bit of tart flavor and a darker color. Aging gives it notes of vanilla, coconut, almond, citrus, or caramel. You can mimic the rum flavor using spiced brown sugar syrup, coconut syrup, and or pineapple syrup, replacing the alcohols in the recipe card with the syrups. I recommend adding the syrups to taste as they may add a sweetness that you may not necessarily get from alcoholic liquors. But if that is out of your realm, you can buy coconut-shaped and pineapple-shaped cups, which is what I did for my Hawaiian Luau Party! This is just an overview; the full ingredients and directions are in the recipe card toward the bottom of this post. White rum: The classic! White rum has a straightforward flavor rum with the signature fruity finish. In this post, I’ll give you a little overview of the history of rum punch (’cause I’m nerdy like that) and share with you the perfect delicious rum punch recipe for one or a crowd! Today rum drinks are a popular part of mainstream culture throughout the Caribbean islands, and there are as many rum punch recipes as there are families. I think some of the most famous are the Jamaican ones, and I love this Jamaican rum punch recipe. Best Rum Punch Supplies Tropical Bahama Mama: 2 parts Mango Rum, 1 part White Rum, 1 part orange juice, 2 parts tropical punch, and a splash of grenadine. Garnish with a mango slice and a maraschino cherry. Drink pitcher– I think making individual drinks is a pain so I usually make a pitcher (no ice) and then serve from there. I love this fun pitcher for rum punch- it makes the drink look beautiful. The full ingredients list and instructions are found in the printable recipe card at the end of this post. I highly recommend reading all the way through for any tips or substitute suggestions, to ensure that you have any specialized ingredients and equipment required and that you understand the steps and timings involved.
