Residual dampness in the morning if conditions prevent drying out completely overnight is really not much of a problem either, just a discomfort. Note, if you are doing any river crossings this is their demise as you would have to take them off or otherwise they would fill up with water! I'm due for a new pair of lightweight shoes, a little more ankle support than trail runners, but I'm thinking waterproof because I usually just get wet over the tops of my foot.

Our Waterproof Socks are designed to keep your feet dry and warm, whether you’re fishing in wet or cold conditions. Please be mindful of our values and boundaries and review our Community Guidelines prior to posting.Brought the oh some for Xmas, she has a leak in one boot and small feet so water often comes over the top, especially in bog and crossing rivers. there are different kind of waterproof socks, some of them work fine for trail running in cold, wet weather and crossing streams. I used a pair last year with breathable trail runners in similar conditions (frequent unbridged stream crossings and damp grass)and never got them to dry out, even when tucked up under my shirt at night (and boy did they stink of mildew by day 4). I don't like them as much as the Merrells, but if I really need something waterproof I might not hate the waterproof version of the Trail Freaks. Once you’re out running in the rain, you can feel confident that if it’s incessantly heavy precipitation, or you accidentally stick your foot in a deceptively deep puddle, your feet will remain warm and dry (even more so if you pair the socks with waterproof trainers).

Canvas dodgers and biminis are the hallmark of a cruising yacht, keeping the sun at bay and allowing the crew to "dodge" the worst of the weather. Icebreaker, Darn Tough, and Filson have decent wool socks, and I've heard good things about Bridgedale thin socks, though I've yet to try them myself. With a waterproof level of 20,000 HH, they remain highly waterproof while also letting your feet breathe via the company’s unique ‘hydrophilic’ membrane that pulls moisture away from your foot, meaning your skin remains dry.

Not at all breathable, so probably not a good alternative to Sealskinz for more than a few hours at a time - they get a bit minging inside if you wear them all day long, especially while working hard. They still help after they start leaking though, as they stop cold water from 'flushing' through and the water trapped inside does eventually warm up so they do still work to keep you warm despite letting some water in, a bit like wearing a wetsuit.

Biking rather than running but they were a relevation for my winter commute, even if it now means everyone misses out on my hotache dance once my feet start thawing out in the shower block!Initially more comfortable than the Gore ones, but I'm not sure they were ever waterproof, and certainly not after the first couple of times I wore them. I’ve used sealskinz but always find they get so many holes in they are pointless and never seemed to fit very well. For warmer use then I'd say not worth it - socks (with spare pairs) and walking trainers without a goretex liner have proven quite good at clearing water rapidly.
