It's Liz's senior year, a time meant to be rife with milestones perfect for any big screen, and she needs Wes's help. So she puts off her friend, she tries to avoid committing to anything, she shuns her stepmother, not because she doesn’t like her, but just because the thought of doing any of this stuff with someone who isn’t her mother, is so hard for her.It would have been great to have more background establishing the conflict between Liz and Joss, it lacks a bit of emotional impact because the reader does not get to know Joss very well.
