It’s a perfect middle grade book, full of laughter and lessons that slip in when you least expect them. A ring that looks suspiciously like the cursed ring of Andvari, one that promises Loki the world if only he gives in to his deepest, darkest desires.

This selection of books shows what Viking life was like, with all the action and humour you might expect. For any kid transfixed by Norse mythology […] it’s silly, full of cheeky jokes and mischief, and peopled by believable, fallible characters who just happen to be gods.I've overheard my kids telling their friends about it, saying that if they like books by Rick Riordan or Cressida Cowell then they'll also enjoy this one. Underpinned by Nordic mythology and a satirical approach to contemporary culture, this entertaining romp already has a cult of worshippers.

After a series of 1-star reviews from his teachers, Loki is jealous of the glowing adoration bestowed upon Thor and swears vengeance. Told through magical diary entries that reveal only the truth, it's the Norse gods as you've never seen them: hilarious, immature--and prepubescent. Explore our pick of the best children's books in February 2022 – from thrilling escape rooms to the surprising adventures of a crisp packet, there's something for every reader to enjoy! outrageously funny […] Sharp wit, ethical dilemmas, sly mythological references and oodles of doodles are a recipe for pure reading pleasure. After the drama teacher casts him as the villain in the school play, Loki starts to wonder whether there’s any point in being good when everyone seems convinced of his villainy. Furious that he must suffer indignities such as attending school and doing chores, Loki struggles to be good. The Loki series is a real favourite of mine and one I am constantly recommended to children and families as they are accessible to even the most reluctant of readers. Life's tough for trickster god Loki, banished to earth in the body of an eleven-year-old boy with thunder god Thor for company. Another fabulously funny read from Louie Stowell, this time with a very clever exploration of good/evil and empathy!

This book was also really exciting as you got to play detective and solve the mystery of Thor’s missing hammer. This side-splitting tale, which contains an abundance of references to Norse mythology, is hugely entertaining from start to finish.

The first Loki had me roaring last year so I was thrilled to learn there’d be a follow-up (and the end of the story tantalisingly teases the next one! We began it last week and it has proven an instant hit; they all look forward to story time at the end of the day now and check it will be happening first thing in the morning. He has a whole month to redeem himself or else he will be sent to Hel wherein he will find an eternity of torture by the fangs of venomous snakes. Before anyone cries "woke nonsense", please remember that particular detail is traditional Norse mythology. Loki is a character that we just can’t get enough of and in this quirky interpretation, he’s a huge bundle of fun. My son and I read it together over the course of several nights before bed and it offered the level of humor and wit that we both look for in books. I didn't know I wanted to read about Loki as a disgraced god forced into an Adrian-Mole-esque existence, but it turns out I do! He is particularly enraged that he has to put up with Thor, who poses as his twin brother to keep an eye on him.Everyone, like it or not, has a bit of Loki and Thor in them - and this book highlights that perfectly. Another hilarious Loki book […] Loved the explanations of mortal things such as zoos, mall etc that made me laugh out loud. Stowell balances humor with emotional depth, without ever falling into the expositional trope of people simply sitting and talking about their feelings. Loki might not have shown any moral improvement (yet) but Odin has given him another chance to prove himself worthy of A.
