Subject: Man sustains foot injuries after forklift truck reverses on to him
A 58 year old man has suffered serious foot injuries after a forklift truck reversed on to him following an accident at work.
He suffered three broken toes when the front of his left foot was forced into the steel toecap of his boot during the impact. He also suffered a dislocation of the upper foot as well as bruising.
The fork lift accident at work happened during a loading operation when he was struck by the forklift truck. He has since had to wear a special support in his shoe to help him walk correctly and was only able to return to work 11 months after the incident.
Investigations found that the company did not have sufficient plans for employees to follow during offloading operations. It was discovered that the forklift truck’s reversing alarm was broken. The company was fined a total of £5,000.
