Ultimately your first consideration when choosing one of the best capos should be to choose one that fits your guitar. Most brands offer a range of options, so if you see a capo you like, there’ll probably be one designed to fit your guitar.

Dan Uttendorfer, I’ve Never Been the Gett’in Kind (original). Full capo 2 nd fret=DADGAD up (2) frets I previously had 2 spider capos about 5 years ago and they had great potential as the catalyst for yielding very fruitful creative output. unfortunately, they were lost and I had some unfortunate turbulent, traumatic years where I so wasn't in the position to be creative. Solution: Look at the capo chart below and put the capo in a place where you CAN play the chords! Spider Capo Open Tuning Capo Overview

Plus you can’t fret the open string of the fret the capo is attached to. Who Will The Spider Capo Be Most Useful For? As most things you get what you pay for. If you are looking for the BEST quality screw capo then the D’addario (first option) is what i would recommend. Not only is it premium brand that specialize in acoustic based equipment. It is outstanding quality and durable being built with Aerospace Grade Aluminum. Partial capos allow you to clamp some strings and leave others open. The spider capo is a famous example: I found it rather awkward to fit and quite often lost patience with it. Once attached it opens up a wealth of different tunings, a lot that would not be possible normally. There are suggestions provided, to get you started. You can take the time to figure out all the different chord equivalents in the lower key (this is called ‘transposing’) and then play those different chord shapes. Then again, I guess I haven’t seen all the cheap capos out there. I imagine there are some pretty shady ones that don’t work well because they’re made out of something unusual. Capos also offer up interesting uses when revoicing chords. You can take a regular chord progression, add the capo and change the chord shapes. This gives you the same chords but with a different voice, and thus a more interesting sound. Pair it up with a guitar playing the original voicings and you can add a much richer tone to your recordings. Upon using the SpiderCapo, veteran guitar players, Peter and Fred found that they were experiencing the guitar with fresh ears, as if playing it for the first time. They called each other daily to share their discoveries of tunings, chords and sounds made possible by the new capo. Let’s look at the first row. In the top left, you will see the word “CHORD” with ‘C’ under it. If you go to the right, you will see the column labelled “0 (with no capo)”.

Get Creative! – You can experiment with different tunings to create uniques sounds and textures to your music just like Andy Mkcee (above video) On the handling part it is a bit fiddly compared to a regular capo, but you can adjust it to fit any fingerboard width. Also, the tension on the strings can be gauged, which is good as it limits tuning issues. G7th Capo was first built in 2004. You may consider this design to be revolutionary as it works by pinching. Making it very easy to move up and down the fretboard. Time to adjust tension – Because the screw capo requires you to manually clamp the capo to the fretboard means that you will need more time to fit it to your Guitar Because the fingers are easy enough to adjust individually, if you can think of a way to use the Spider Capo in this fashion, you could technically change tunings mid song, without too much difficulty. One example might be moving from a major tuning to a minor tuning mid stream. Alternate guitar tunings can be so much fun, but they’re often a bit clunky to work with on the fly. This can change that quite easily. The Bottom LineOr you may have a singer who wants to sing in the key of A. (Because that’s the sweet spot for his range.) Overall, I think the Spider Capo is a brilliant step forward for guitar capos. You get far more versatility than a standard capo, and if you’re the type of player that loves to sit and tinker with your guitar, then this may well be squarely up your alley. This will get your brain thinking much harder about your guitar and why and how it is tuned the way it is, which is a great exercise that will help you even playing in standard tuning.
