At the moment, my baby daughter shares our bedroom and bedtime is the only time I get to read....I found it quite impossible at times NOT to laugh out loud for risk of waking her! I also found myself snorting and sniggering at the book whilst in the dentist's waiting room and people looking at me oddly probably wondering what I was laughing at.Really enjoyed this series of anecdotes / stories from the life of Alan Carr - especially as I listened via audio and Alan actually spoke to me! Carr's early TV career included guest appearances on 8 Out of 10 Cats in 2005 and The Law of the Playground in 2006. [12] [13] He and Justin Lee Collins co-hosted The Friday Night Project from series two in 2006 until it was cancelled after the end of series eight in February 2009. [14] Carr went on to host two series of Channel 4's game show Alan Carr's Celebrity Ding Dong from 2007 to 2009, and the chat show Alan Carr: Chatty Man, which ran for 16 series from 2009-2016, with Christmas Specials in 2016 and 2017. Alan Carr - Wikipedia

Getting older does mean thinking about death. Last month, he went to the funeral of his friend the comedian Paul O’Grady, who died aged 67. He was unnerved – by the service, by the burial, by the process of watching the coffin lowered into the ground. At the wake, he could not stop thinking: “But he’s there, he’s still in the ground. So very weird,” he says, adding, “I’m always thinking of death. Not like suicide, but what happens when you’re going to the other side?” When accepting his award for Best Entertainment Personality at the British Comedy Awards in December 2008, Carr dedicated it to Karen Matthews, who had earlier that month been found guilty of kidnapping Shannon Matthews, her own daughter. Carr was quoted by BBC News as stating: "I should dedicate this award to her [Karen]. She would be my dream guest. I think she's a gay icon. People like a bit of rough, don't they?" [31] What I loved the most was seeing the extremes of Alan – from extremely nervous to travelling the world for a year. Seeing him see himself just as he had done before, even when success hit And even when things didn’t go so well – he still writes with such humour and wit about it. Alan Graham Carr was born in Northampton as the oldest son of Christine and Graham Carr, and spent the majority of his youth there. His father is a former Northampton Town manager and Newcastle United head scout from the North East of England. Gary is Carr’s younger brother. He attended Northampton’s Weston Favell Upper School before graduating from Middlesex University with a 2:1 BA (Hons) degree in Drama and Theatre Studies. Carr arrived to Manchester in his early twenties after finishing his degree and aspired to be a comedian. Alan Carr PartnerAfter completing his degree in his early 20s, Carr moved to Manchester, aspiring to be a comedian. He lived in Chorlton-cum-Hardy after which he moved to Stretford, which he cites as an inspiration for his comedic work. [9] Carr worked in a call centre for five years and performed on the comedy circuit in his spare time, before moving into comedy as a full-time career. [10] [11] Career [ edit ] Television and film [ edit ] Alan Carr's autobiography. I have only just recently become a fan of Alan Carr (unfortunately I never delved into the delights of 'Friday Night Project') - nevertheless, I find him extremely funny and was expecting the book to be a 'laugh-a-minute' book. It wasn't but that didn't really spoil things as the whole book was still enjoyable to read. I read this book because somebody that I know recommended it to me last year. I’ve just managed to get round to reading it, and overall I would say that it has left a mixed impression behind.

Look Who It Is! Alan Carr, My Story by Alan Carr | Goodreads

I loved Alan Carrs first book and so I’m delighted this did not disappoint. The fact I was listening to the audio book and it was read by the author just made the experience even better. At times on the way to work I was crying with laughter so much I had to stop. While reading this book I particularly enjoyed the parts where he talks about his childhood, his pushy father, his school days, life at University, temp work and then when he goes travelling. However, I found the later chapters after this much less enjoyable. Instead, we discuss how, in his 40s, he’s finally comfortable in his own skin. In the past, he’d never watch his own appearances – not even one episode of Chatty Man – because he hated his looks. He always thought he was overweight and his teeth were gappy – although he’s astute enough to know they enhance the caricature, the brand, much like Kenneth Williams’s flaring nostrils. The younger generation has taught him a lot about gender and sexuality, and how to be, he says. This book is everything I expect from an autobiography.. funny, intimate and self assured with a dash of honesty. I loved how care free Alan Carr was, he named and shamed some celebrities which takes some "balls" and the fact the book embodies his campiness. A very good read. He attended Weston Favell Academy, Northampton, England. He graduated from Middlesex University, London, England with a BA (Hons) degree in Drama and Theatre studies. Alan Carr – Professional Life, Careera b The Law of the Playground (Documentary, Comedy), Zeppotron, 21 July 2006 , retrieved 15 May 2022 I thought wow I can't believe I'm doing this - I don't particularly like Alan Carr as a comedian (just isn't my kinda comedy). However I must admit I was secretly surprised, while not the nest written autobiography I have read. It was funny, engaging and I find myself liking Alan Carr - just him not his comedy still. If you've seen 'The Tooth Fairy Live' then you will recognise some of the anecdotes but it's still funny and what makes it even better is that whilst reading it, you can hear his unique voice in your head. What about Graham? “My dad found it incredibly sad. Which is not what you want to hear when you’ve made a sitcom.” Whereas I used to maybe slag off someone from X Factor, I think we’ve realised now who the enemy is He is the oldest son of Graham Carr and Christine Carr. His father, Graham Carr was a former professional football player, manager, and scout. Caption: Alan Carr and husband Paul Drayton (Source: Hello Magazine)
