The 2023 edition is the sixth in the series, and has a theme of the solar system and zodiac, with beautiful illustrations by artist Whooli Chen. Including a lot of information, month by month, on the Solar System, the sea, the moon, gardening, the Zodiac, Nature, Music and some fabulous recipes it a great reference book. The only issue I had was that the writing is rather small so it wasn’t easy to read without my glasses! Nature is also given – May’s offering is pond life creatures illustrated allowing identification of certain beasts. For younger bookworms – and nostalgic older ones too – there’s the Slightly Foxed Cubs series, in which we’ve reissued a number of classic nature and historical novels.

The independent-minded quarterly magazine that combines good looks, good writing and a personal approach. An almanac is not designed to be consumed in one sitting, so I took one month at random to see what was on offer. Metal Sculptor based in Long Bennington, Lincolnshire, using recycled materials to create sculptures for your garden or indoor decoration. Lia Leendertz also provides features on each month’s unique nature, such as beehive behaviour, folklore, seasonal recipes and charts tracking moon phases and tides. Payments made using National Book Tokens are processed by National Book Tokens Ltd, and you can read their Terms and Conditions here.A total compendium for 2023 providing information about the moon cycle, the sea temperature, zodiac information and some seasonal recipes fitting with the holidays next year. It gives you the tools and inspiration you need to celebrate, mark and appreciate each month of the year in your own particular way. Slightly Foxed introduces its readers to books that are no longer new and fashionable but have lasting appeal. This is a beautiful little hardback with lots of information, for those in Britain and Ireland, about the changing seasons, moon phases, gardening, the night sky and the natural world.

Lia Leendertz’s The Almanac - A Seasonal Guide to 2023 is an inspiring tool for reconnecting with nature’s cycles in practical ways that propagate soulful results. These little books are a delight and cover much more than you would find in a typical Farmer's Almanac which obviously relates more to matters affecting agriculture and fishing. From moon phases and tide times, to mythology and astronomy, from what’s happening in ponds to recipes and folk songs… this month by month guide informs and inspires.I’ve gotten more accustomed to wintering in recent years, thanks in part to the lockdowns and this wonderful book by Katherine May. I have picked out some favourites, such as the Folk Song for Aries’ Ram “The Derby Ram” which is especially interesting given where I live. Her reinvention of the traditional rural almanac has become an annual must-have for readers eager to connect with the seasons, appreciate the outdoors and discover ways to mark and celebrate each month.

There is a beautiful drawing for the start of every month, often linked to the zodiac sign which is further detailed in the text. I was attracted to this by the very beautiful cover and when it arrived it’s quite a small book, so possible to carry around with you - as long as you’ve got a good sized bag.

This year's focus has been the zodiac but not as a horoscope, but more as the what and why of each month. The Chalke History Festival announces a new name, new look, and tons for history buffs to get their teeth into! The world of nature is also covered – May’s offering is pond life creatures illustrated allowing identification of certain beasts. It gives details of the month “at a glance” such as the appearance of the countryside and traditional practices in rural areas such as Morris dancing. Lia Leendertz has produced another superb gem of a book in “THE ALMANAC” - A seasonal guide to 2023.
